"By doing that, we will be able to seize their funds and go after anyone who provides them bay help or contributions or assistance whatsoever," he said. "To me, they are a clear and present danger to America."

Excuse me? A terrorist organization?

It really doesn't matter what side you come down on in regards to wikileaks, but this is ridiculous. A terrorist organization? For leaking the truth?

All this shows me is the knee jerk reaction of our congress... Yet another indication of how moronic our politicians can be.

With all these threats and so on, why are they releasing the cables so slowly....

At their current rate it will take about 3 years, if not longer to get them all out... they should be releasing a thousand plus per day to get them all out in a few months as they stated

The same individuals who scream against an intrusive government, with socialist mentality, now act like a Soviet-esque machinery silencing and devaluating any form of dissidence or criticism. Thought the "young gun republicans" were all in favour of protecting civil liabilities and freedom of speech?

Analogies and voices of fascism.

If anything the Republican party should be designated international terrorists for thier involvement in the precursor to the Iraq war, and for allowing the blithering , drooling, idiot that headed thier party, to act in thier name! Wikileaks is the most democracy friendly website ever created ! It refuses to accept anything less than total awareness on behalf of those who use the site, insists by way of its releases that EVERYONE have access to all the information that can be obtained about how governments (NOT just the US) run thier affairs, and I for one believe thats all for the good!
A democracy with secrets, is sort of like a prison with open doors. Its not going to be effective .

Complete Hilarious, they are caught with thier pnts down, now they want to class those who leaked this information as terrorists. Just shows do not trust an government. Funny how all the other governments around the world condemmed this leaking. While the documents cleary shows, the contempt the US Goverment has not only for its enemies, but its socalled closest allies also.

It is going to come to the stage, where no citizen can hold thier Governments to Account, without being branded as un Patriotric, or are classed as terrorists.

Star for you!

I could have not put it better myself, not only the republican party, but the labour party also in the UK, After all they went hand in hand with what, the US Government wanted. They are just as guilty.

Funny is it not. The UK Helped them out, and the UK Armed forced were slagged off and criticised for thier roles in Iraq.

That in itself is a slap to the face,to all those soldiers who died out there.

Maybe the UK Government should bare that in mind before they jump into bed with the USA again.

We are already there ! Hell, Im just a metal head, and a few years back I got stopped by an officer who thought I was some afghani terror suspect on the wanted list!! I was just walking home at the time, not fiddling with a gas main, or messing around with objects in the boot of a car... just walking home.
Wikileaks supports freedom of speech , and denies governments the right to privacy , something which I would like to see written in to the law of every democratic nation... something like :

When a person has something to hide, it may not be illegal, and therefore, keep your nose out. When the people running a NATION have something to hide, expose it, lest things be done in your name, which you would not support.

Sounds a lot like a dictatorship, the US govt are really looking like kindergarden children with this kind of actions..
Just like the govt of my country (the Netherlands) all of our politicians are running around in circles screaming like a little 8yr old who doesnt get what he wants or something like that..

O Noooo where being screwed by someone who is telling the truth about us that we dont want them to know,, what to do, what to do.. well lets try the same thing as with 9/11 we call them terrorist and everybody will be behind us to fight this awfull fantasy.

Welli mi no buyi..

regards.

(Edit)
Btw a deffenition of terrorism quoted from wikipedia:

Terrorism is the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion.[1] No universally agreed, legally binding, criminal law definition of terrorism currently exists.[2][3] Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for a religious, political or ideological goal, deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (civilians), and are committed by non-government agencies.

That last sectence doesn't quite add up, and surely terrorism is not only perpertuated by non-govt agencies.
War is also a kind of terrorism so again hypocricy rules the govt's..

Sorry I can't copy links but if you go to politico dot com you will see that Sen. Clair McCaskill Democrat - MO
also spoke against the leaks saying "their patriotism needs to be checked."

I saw the story on Drudge Report.

Both sides of the aisle are against the leaks.

Neither party are saints and both are corrupted beyond belief. But ATS knows this already. Most of ATS anyway.

A news article from july 28.

[qoute]Suspicions abound that Wikileaks is part of U.S. cyber-warfare operations

WMR has learned from Asian intelligence sources that there is a strong belief in some Asian countries, particularly China and Thailand, that the website Wikileaks, which purports to publish classified and sensitive documents while guaranteeing anonymity to the providers, is linked to U.S. cyber-warfare and computer espionage operations, as well as to Mossad’s own cyber-warfare activities.[/qoute]

i love how all these people in here think for one second that this isn't some preemptive strike by our government to stop the real stuff from coming out leaving you to believe that this source is correct in its reporting lol what do you have? Nothing so far! Also seems like everyone is gearing up for war this site only cables are American lol very very fair ahaha why not China ,English or Russian we all know they have loads of crap they are doing wrong yet every moron like's to jump on the we hate Americans bandwagon. The English being the biggest hypocrites because before us it was you! now we are paying the bill for your anti missile system yet you still hate. And most Americans know the English own our banking system so who do you really think is pulling the strings here and why do you think tony blair wanted to help bush so bad.

Typical! Attack the source rather than actually delve in to the facts presented. Is this genius going to open any inquiry into the content of the leaks? Of course not. It's easier just to 'kill the messenger.'

WL are just presenting the ugly truth. Apparently, by people reading the ugly truth they will be tarred with the same brush as WL to be 'terrorists.'

Hmm, perhaps its because America dont know how to secure thier data correctly ? This is almost as ridiculous as saying "Loads of people kill people officer, why are you arresting me just cos you caught me at it?" .Utter nonsense, making victims of yourselves like some sniveling gutterworm, attempting to avoid the attentions of a justly hungry bird.
The way I see it, this leak says as much about the politics and diplomacy of other nations as it does about the US itself. The Yemeni authorities for instance, must be horrified at the fact that thier cover up of the American opperations there (bombing al queda suspects within Yemeni territory) has been undone by this leak. After all , they lied to thier own people about who was bombing who and why, claiming that thier own military was responsible for the strikes. They stand to loose far more as a political group from that part of the leak, than does the US.
All the US really stands to loose from this leak, is the confidence of diplomats and military strategists the world over, purely because the US appears to have more leaks in its secret keeping methodology than a fishing net in a saw mill. You can rest assured that if Wikileaks found evidence against Tony Blair, the current UK government, or any other bugger, then they would show it to the world just the same. I think the UK intelligence service know this also , and thusly have cranked up the preasure on thier operatives to keep thier data secure, and prevent leaks and defections.
I have heard the kind of complaining and pathetic tone , currently employed by the US , and its allies who condemn this leak before. Its the same utterly gutless response you get when questioning an Israeli about Gaza, or talking to a Chinese official about Tibet. Its disembling nonsense, which refuses to answer any accusation made against it. Its utterly pathetic. One day, someone important will ask the US government two very important questions. Those will be :

How can you justify advocating democracy while lying to your people about the sort of government which runs thier lives?

And if you must opperate like a fascism, why with all the public money invested in intelligence and government , can you not keep your foul, distended, cancerous and immoral activities from the sight of the taxpayer, and the world at large?

No matter how victimised the American government might feel about these leaks, those two questions, when asked from the right mouth, will need answers that the establishment cannot give without demolishing thier own houses of cards. THAT is the reason for all the complaining, and the whining, and the inability to give a straight answer about intelligence matters. The truth is that the leaks have NOT endagered anyones life , at least, no one who doesnt deserve a swift kick in the nuts for acting in an undemocratic manner. If governments want to control thier nations, then they have to behave as if they were being watched by a member of the public , over thier shoulder, every day , every second. They MUST not do things which thier people would not allow if given a choice and ALL the relavent information. If they DO act in a moraly retarded way, and are caught, then thats tough luck, and they , and thier ignorant fool supporters must bite that bullet, and either confess to thier crimes and swing in the breeze, or suck it up , and be men rather than pathetic mewling halfbirths about it, like they are now.

If wikkileaks are terrorists what does that make G W Bush? America has no justice, just corruptness.

Land of the Free? I dont agree with this. More like land of the misled.

I dont dislike Americans before people start jumping the wagon, but youre government leaves a lot to be desired.
Infact the american government need to be very very careful over the next few years.

Makes me think they deliberately let the information leak as a small sacrifice for the excuse to do # like this. Wikileaks might just be the start.
