Here are some good videos of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and Eurofighter Typhoon

Demonstrates STOVL capabilities - Wow. It hovers so well

What are those things that the Eurofighter makes when it disturbs the air on the ends of its wings called?

I know other planes produce them but you can really notice them with the Eurofighter.

I forgot what you call them but I think all jets make them unless I am mistaken I saw the raptor have them only on take off though nice vids excellent find.

They are called vortices (wake vortex or wing tip vortex) and you notice them more on the EF because of the degree of slope on the wing.

Sweet vids.

If only they were longer. The way the JSF vertical-take of and landing works is amazing. Looks so sleek once it gets flying to.

The vortices from the Tiffies wingtips are only visible because they are being 'illuminated' (for want of a better word) with smoke from the dummy missiles under each wing. It is very pleasing on the eye.

I never noticed that smoke was coming from the missiles.

Why did they have them do that?

Just a visual trick to show up the swirl of the vortices, similarly to tway the Red Arrows trail red white and blue smoke. Its a show trick, it wont do it in service.

excellant clips, when the Typhoon is flying gracfully in the clouds with the music instead of the jet engine noise it kinda makes you forget that its a war machine.

That JSF looks more stable when hovering and taking off vertically than the Harrier does. Ahh but that lift fan has lots of moving parts so it has a higher chance of failure.

Did you see the raptor in one of the videos? I have never noticed that.

No it was on a show on TV about the raptor and when it took off it made the vortices and water a little bit they went away it wasn't in you video's though.
