Yummy sausage balls!

This is a very easy and quick snack to make for any holiday or get together or just because. My mom has made these since I was a kid and at the holidays she probably makes hundreds of them since everyone requests them. I am now getting the same requests from friends. So I thought I would share with my ATS family

You will need:

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 lb of Jimmy Dean sausage (I used the one with sage for extra flavor)
2 cups bisquick
1/4 cup of water

Mix all the above items in a bowl until thoroughly mixed. The water helps the sausage, cheese and bisquick stick together. After you have mixed the items roll the mixture into little balls a little smaller than a golf ball. Put on a cookie sheet and bake 10-12mins or until brown.

I LOVE to cook! My mom always cooked while I was growing up and so did my grandmother, so I naturally picked it up when I was younger. I use to help out in the kitchen as a kid. I learned to cook at a young age you could say
I actually enjoy it and I really love to cook for others.

Bisquick is used to make biscuits and not the ones you have with tea

It's pre-made biscuit flour.

It's probably cheaper than going out to eat all the time, too. Not to mention healthier and more enjoyable.

It's way cheaper!!

My ex and I would look at menus online of our favorite restaurants and choose what we would have if we were there and I would make it for dinner. It's cheaper, cooked right and you get left overs

Haha yeah my roommate always has his cookies in the morning. I dont eat those, they are oatmeal raisin, not my favorite. I prefer peanut butter..OMG I will devour those!

I'm not much for 'sage'-based sausage, so I'd probably go with country-style and the driest extra sharp cheddar I could find.

Sounds good, Mblah

p.s.
Instead of making 'balls' out of it, how 'bout 'rolling' it out to, say, half-inch and use a biscuit cutter?

Sauscuits

LOL Yeah my roommate got the sage sausage. I prefer regular sausage.

I will have to try that next time, rolling them out. That sounds gooooood.

Thank god you made that clear!

I haven't been able to sleep for days worrying about that one

I doubt you can get it in the UK, I guess there might be something similar but I sure can't think of anything

I was actually asking those in chat the other day what would be equivalent and Ahabstar listed what bisquick basically was. I don't remember lol but when he is on next I will post it for ya

I guess bisquick is an American thing
although someone in there, I think Death Kron, posted a link to some yummy breakfast dish that involved some kind of doughy goodness. I will be in London soon but just for a layover but I will pig out on food in the airport

Actually you can ... straight from Amazon.com
- Who'd a thunk it.

Bisquick is just a pre-mixed baking mix. It's all the necessary ingredients 'pre-assembled', if you will

I'm sure you can get the equivalent or similar for far less at your local grocer than you could by ordering it through Amazon.

It's rather humorous and odd that a search for baking mix UK returns Biquick via Amazon as the first result. ?
? It's a conspiracy, I'm sure.
...tryin' to fatten ya Brits up a bit via imported baking mix.

If you can't find it, make your own 'bisquick' doppelganger
- 1 cup flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon shortening/lard/crisco

A variant of the same...

Using:
1lb. country-style sausage
2 C. bisquick
2C. shredded Sharp cheddar
1/4C. water

All of the above:

Mixed well:

Rolled out to 1/2 inch, cut with biscuit cutter:

Placed on sheet pan and Baked for about 15-20 mins @ 325F:

Resulted in this:

Good Eats. Thanks for the heads up And idea Mblahn!

Now...

Substitute chorizo for the sausage and corn flour for the bisquick and you have a mOar mexicali - Chorizscuit.

Substitute chopped steak for the sausage, add a touch of pureed onion/green peppers, topped with provolone or cheez wiz and you've got Philly Cheese Steakscuits.

The choices and options are near endless ... with each and every having their own savory and appreciable aspect(s).

Made ahead of time and frozen, they make for excellent quick snacks and 'breakfast bites', even.

Thanks,
A
