Indonesia raised the alert status of Mount Bromo to the highest level, as volcanic activity increased.
Villagers and tourists are warned to stay off the rumbling slopes. Located about 500 miles east of Jakarta, Mount Bromo is one of Java Island's most
popular tourist attractions.
The government asked villagers and visitors to stay about two miles away from the peak.
Bromo has rarely erupted ash material and hot clouds far from its crater. Nearby cities were not considered in harm's way.
Villagers living near the surrounding area say they are not concerned with the increased volcanic activity.
"No, I'm absolutely not afraid with this situation.”
Bromo last erupted in 2004, but no casualties were reported.
Indonesian authorities are still dealing with another rumbling volcano, Mount Merapi in Central Java, which has killed over 300 people and displaced
more than 400,000.
Sounds to me like Indonesia has a lot going on in the geological world. I feel bad for them.
