According to AWST By July 14th the first missile interceptors will be in place at Ft. Greenly Alaska. Due to an accident at one of the plants the inital number of interceptors will be limited to 5. Officials hope that the shield will be able to protect North America from a launch from North Korea. According to the article, part of Hawaii could be exposed in certain scanrios. The ability to intercept missiles from the Middle East will occur next year after the X - Band radar is completed in England.

From the ashes of Star Wars, we have the beginning of a shield that could protect North America in the even a rogue nation gets a little frisky. While the intial capacity is limited, hopefully we soon should be able to defend aginst limited attacks from anywere in the globe.
