At least, that's what the data suggests:

While updating his 2002 book, “Predicting Presidential Elections and Other Things,” he has calculated his first prediction for the next national election and posted it on his Yale Web site. He says the likely outcome is an Obama victory, regardless of whom he runs against. “If my model’s right, it couldn’t look better for Obama,” he said.

Source

Now, it's not rock-solid, but the interesting thing is how the data corresponds to economic growth. In this case, if the economy is growing at a fairly decent rate (3%+) we've got a shoe-in for Obama. Of course, if it isn't growing too well, he'll have an uphill fight.

What I found interesting after finding this story was one from Newsmax, which did a poll of its readers concerning the 2012 election.

According to that poll, the election would split
Obama - Palin 52-48
Obama - Glenn Beck 55-45
Obama - Lou Dobbs 56-44
Obama - Oprah 63-37

Of course, that last one makes me weary of the poll, but at least it shows that some of the assumed media-politicos who could challenge Obama might not have a chance in hell.

Sure, it's too early to really call it, but I do think that these are positive indicators for Obama

It is always ahrder to get out a sitting gov, and president, so who knows. Pres can rely on gov and stuff to get elected again, but i would not give a prediction here as its still a long way off.

But all sitting presidents and gov are hard to get out.

So we will see what the reps can do.

Doesn't matter who gets in next... They are all part of the same fraternity...

I used to believe that until Obama. Now I'm not so sure. This guy has fooled his own backers and is working very hard to destroy the America I love. I don't want to keep beating the same old drum but, this guy was never vetted by the press. I urge you to read 'Dreams of my father'. This guy hates America! Even with all the mistakes this country has made in the past, there is no justification for this mans behavior. He knows his tits in a ringer right now so he's toned down the anti American sentiment a bit, but he's not an American in his actions. This guy has about as much chance of re-election as Pelosi reading the health care bill.

The New York Times is a liberal left wing mess. They want their fella to win. Someone there has been smoking too much funny stuff late at night. Obama's latest approval rating by Zogby is 39%.

As for those Newsmax comparisons .. that's laughable.
That's NOT a reasonable poll.

Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs and Oprah are talking heads on TV and aren't qualified. Palin is a 1/2 term govenor and isn't qualified either. Try pulling up numbers matching Obama against people who can do the job - Jindal or Pawlenty or even Hillary Clinton. The numbers would be different I'm sure.

Chosing between politicians is like chosing between one-ply charmin and one-ply cottonelle . . . both equally as ineffective except with the one-ply, the smell goes away after a while.

Politicials provide for perpetual stink.

Hmmm..This article states quite the opposite.

Poll: 2012-election prospects shaky for Obama

Nearly half of his own base — 45 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents — want someone to challenge him for the Democratic nomination, according to the poll.

And, assuming he wins renomination, barely more than 1 in 3 voters, or 36 percent, said they'll definitely vote for him, while nearly half, 48 percent, said they'll definitely vote against him.

Surely does not look like landslide numbers to me.

I find it interesting that other than Sarah Palin they didn't pit Obama against politicians. I would be very interested in what their numbers would say if were Obama vs. Ron Paul.

Well if he keeps extending unemployment benefits and bailing out the Industrial complex with pretend money then of course he'll still look like a pretend savior.
I don't believer 3/4 of his 'followers' know diddly about what's REALLY going on. They are headline news readers at best.
As long as they can afford their cable (to watch Oprah), eat their fast-food, still afford petrol and get those vaccinations at their local 7-11 store, they're happy and life is good.

I think we need to reinstate a mandatory draft. That'll wake people up to the brink of a revolution which, this country needs unfortunately.

I'm glad but I also doubt a landslide victory. There's too many idiots out there who believe absolutely all the rumors and lies made up about obama to change your opinion, most if not all are created by republicans. For crying out loud, republicans have a whole network dedicated to an aggressively dis informative rhetoric, designed to keep their horrible machine oiled.

Personally, I can't wait to have health insurance again

Piddles, I notice that you don't say you can't wait to have a job again. Tells me alot about where you're coming from. If I were you, I'd take better care of myself and not count on the government to take care of your shortcomings.

because I have a job? Because I'm self-employed? and Because I'm still in school?

A+ work, you really bring about the smart

From the same story

Click below to see other Newsmax 2012 poll results:

Gates, Buffett, and Trump Could Beat Obama in 2012

Gen. Petraeus Would Defeat President Obama in 2012 Race

Hillary Trounces Obama 60 Percent to 40 Percent

I could see Hillary clobbering him head to head, if it came to that.

Piddles, If you are self employed then it is your responsibility to find and PAY for health insurance. Same thing goes with school or if you have a real job. Your argument makes no sense. The fact of the matter is that this country is turning into a Socialist/Fascist regime right under our noses and most people don't realize it. I realize that Socialism and Fascism can be regarded as polar opposites. We have more people that are on unemployment than have been in history, more people without health insurance and more people leeching off the system and our government is allowing it to happen because it fits in with their plan. They give these people just enough to feed themselves and put a barely manageable roof over their heads all while taxing the heck out of them. The only people that win in the future are those with big government sponsored business or the politicians themselves. Everyone else is going to be considered domestic terrorists when they speak up that they deserve more.

Don't get me wrong I know people want jobs, want insurance and want more than just enough to feed themselves but I don't see anyone sticking up for themselves, opening businesses to EMPLOY other people. You know why, because government has their hands in everything and small business can't afford to exist. Talk about educating yourself man. Go to college, serve your country, try starting a business, get your own life then talk to me.

OBAMA doesn't have a chance in HE!! if they run an actual politician that claims to be "For the People"

In the polls, Obama is tracking exactly like Jimmy Carter. He will prove to be the biggest embarrassment the country has ever put into the oval office, only to be outdone by the next.
A reflection of the electorate.

edit: respectfully:

it's clear that you don't actually know what you're talking about and to continue any kind of conversation with you will only lead to more stupidity. Read HCR bill, think about why I would be self-employed and wanting health insurance (give you a hint:has something to do with the economy right now), and REALLY really think about what you mean by "serve your country" and whether or not to you, that only means to serve in the military. thank you.
