Israeli forces raid Jericho

Israeli forces have mounted a rare raid into the West Bank town of Jericho, detaining more than 20 wanted Palestinians, the Israeli army says.

Witnesses said tanks and armoured personnel carriers backed by helicopter gunships pushed into the ancient town on Thursday in an area largely untouched by nearly four years of Israeli-Palestinian violence.

Untouched by violence in nearly four years, yet the Israeli's found a good amount of weapons and explosives. Conventional wisdom says this is a dangerous escalation, but is it really? What can the Palestinian Authority do?
