Tactical Missile Defense Radar.

Topic started on 1-7-2004 @ 01:31 AM by WestPoint23

This missile defense radar is the only one of its kind in US inventory to be able to track and calculate landing and damage of the ballistic missile and transfers info in real time to the anti missile batteries. Will this really be that useful in our program for a national ballistic missile defense.

The AN/TPS-59 (V)3 is a highly mobile, all solid-state, three-dimensional (3D) radar originally designed and proven for long range aircraft detection and tracking. With the proliferation of Tactical Ballistic Missiles, the TPS-59(V)3 has been upgraded to detect and track TBMs, precisely predict missile launch and impact points and cue defensive weapons to expand their defended footprint. It is the first and only tactically mobile, long range surveillance radar in the United States inventory today to have successfully demonstrated this capability is a series of "live fire" tests against TBMs.
