Welteislehre (Cosmic Ice Theory)

The world ice theory was founded by Austrian engineer Hans Hörbiger and is considered to be pseudo-scientific. His theory was not very welcomed or accepted by academia or the public until 1919 when he launched a campaign to inform the public about his theory so they could then pressure the scientific and academic communities into letting his theory become a part of debate. He soon died though in 1931 however his theory did not die with him as the National Socialists in Germany soon made his theory part of their ideology.

Horbiger did not invent his theory from research or mathematics but rather from a vision he received in 1894. His theory claims that ice was the basic substance of all cosmic processes, with ice moons, ice planets, and ‘global ether’ determined the entire development of the universe.

According to Horbiger one night he was observing and was struck by its brightness and roughness of its surface was due to ice. He claims not long after that observation he had a dream where he was floating through space and saw a pendulum swaying back and forth going further away each time until it snapped.

"I knew that Newton had been wrong and that the sun's gravitational pull ceases to exist at three times the distance of Neptune," he concluded.

His theory states that the solar system had its origins in a giant star into which a smaller, dead, waterlogged star fell. The huge explosion through fragments of the smaller star out into interstellar space where the water condensed and froze into blocks of ice. A ring of such blocks formed our very own Milky Way among other solar systems.

Interplanetary space according to his theory has traces of hydrogen gas which causes the planets to slowly spiral inward along with blocks of ice. He claims the outer planets are larger because they swallowed my ice blocks than the inner planets. His theory states that we can see these ice blocks in the form of meteors which crash into the earth and cause hailstorms in a small area and when they hit the sun they produce a sunspot and get vaporized, thus creating “fine ice” which covers the inner most planets.

His theory states that the earth has had more than one satellite in fact it has had many which began as planets and were drawn into the earth slowly until they began to disintegrate and small left-over parts become part of the earth’s structure. He also claims we can identify the rock strata of several geological eras with the impacts of these satellites.

In the last impact of the ‘tertiary’ or ‘cenozoic moon’ and the capture of our present moon can be identified in myths and legends. One of his followers claimed he had reoccuring dreams which depicted a similar scenario of the moon coming close to the earth than exploding making the ground below roll and pitch, awakening him and giving him a very sick feeling. Supposedly when he later looked out a telescope and seen the moon’s surface it looked troublingly familiar. He found Horbiger’s theory in 1921 and immediately stated that is what he seen in his dream.

The theory concludes that our current moon is the 6th moon since the earth’s beginning and it will eventually come close enough to the earth and cause a new collision. Many of the believer’s of his theory have stated that the great flood from worldwide mythology and the sinking of Atlantis are both the result of the impact from our older moons.

His theory came under assault from the scientific and academic community calling it pseudo-science and a fraud. When pointed out his assertions did not work mathematically he stated,

"Calculation can only lead you astray."

When pointed out that the Milky Way is made up of millions of stars he claimed the picutres were faked by “reactionary” astronomers. And when it was pointed out the surface of the moon reaches 100 C in the sunlight by a rocket expert he responded,

"Either you believe in me and learn, or you will be treated as the enemy."

I hope you learned something new. Whether or not this theory is true I do not know. I just found this interesting and did some research into it. I figure the more information people are exposed to the more intelligent they will become.

Just to say Galaxy and Solar System two different things. Our Solar System doesn't really have a name though you could call it Sol System. I suppose it is time for our Solar System to acquire a popular name as in the past there was only "the" solar system but now we know there to be many. Interesting that our language hasn't quite adapted to that fact yet.

This whole post and the above comments sound like a modern day thread out of ATS. Here you have a person whom has placed more importance on a belief rooted in a dream than in scientific fact, much like what we see on ATS. Then you have valid questions posed to him which are met with deflection and not direct answers. He also states that disbelief will result in your being classified as his "enemy".

Are we sure that the above article doesn't offer proof of immortality? I certainly can think of two or three ATSers whom may very well be the man written about above!

except....the moon is moving away from earth several inches a year. it will never collide with earth....ever. excepting of course if some huge asteroid hits it and drives it towards earth. i'm all for crazy theories....but they've got to have at least some chance of being right...
