There have been many movies on surviving that have hit the main stream and the thought of it seems to be validated only in the movies and during that time. In real life, tell someone you are preparing to survive a catastophic event that has yet to occur, and you'll get some funny looks (all you zombie survivors know this well). But as I watch some of them (The Road and 28 Day Later jump to mind right away), I have to ask... When have you survived too long?

OK, you were properly equiped for the big, unseen event... You were prepared and you survived. Given time and preparedness, you have continued to survive. you are now one of the few alive. Anywhere.

And now perhaps it hits you that a social creature cannot take being alone. Nor the fact that chaos is now the rule of the land. You've done it... You outlasted all the rest. Now you are alone. Maybe able to have a loved one to cling to... But still... Alone. Did you survive too long?

I think you're bordering on a fundamental paradox right there. You can never survive too long.

What's the point of surviving at all if you intend to give up at some point in the future?

I'd be happy just stand long enough to ps on the graves of those that brought this down on us all.
Even better if the graves are a work in progress.

I won't be alone
there will be a wolf, a dog, or a cat, and a book or too.

might even call up some porn on a lap top.
ahhh, that was great.
night dear

Those who can't handle solitude won't last as "survivors" very long. Soon they will be overcome with loneliness, depression, or even guilt, and they will likely take their own lives.
Its those of us who actually do well alone, who are capable of going weeks and months without even missing talking to another living soul that will fair the best.

Those who survive a catastrophic event will be a different animal than what is considered the norm for every day society these days.

No person can stand absolute isolation.

There is very few that can stand to live by themselves for years at a time.

And I can guarantee that that small minority doesn’t include anyone on here.

The whole point of this board is to allow other conspiracy theorist/survivalist to find others of the same group to talk to because they feel isolated among the normal population.

Someone that is truly a loner will not be posting on this message board.

Even people that are in solitary isolation still see someone put food in their cell three times a day and sometimes talk to the jailer or even get yelled at by the jailer. That interaction with an outside person is the only thing that keeps them from going totally insane.

People that have been stranded on islands by themselves for years will even forget how to talk. Whey they do try to talk it just sounds like mindless mumbling.

People are social beings.

Saying a population of a city will turn against themselves to the very last person is like saying an ant colony will turn ant against ant when the ant hill is destroyed. There may be isolated groups that form separate factions, but the lone ant will always look for a group to join so long as the group doesn’t reject it. And a group will always look for a larger group to join so long as the larger group doesn’t reject it.

One person by themselves can’t reproduce. If you can’t reproduce, there is no point in your existence. People are simply not designed to operate by themselves. To say different is nonsense.

Speak for yourself.
Even the most sociable of people can spend their entire lives alone if they need to. Searching out like minded people because they are different from everyday society isn't a sign of weakness or codependent need. It indicates that they are not afraid to be different and isolated from the mainstream.
You make too many assumptions about others abilities.
You might want to stick to telling others what you won't be able to do. That's the only real guarantee you can give anyone.

Are you the ONLY one alive or only ONE OF A FEW? You say both. If you were indeed the last one standing, you and only you, then there wouldn't be much point in staying alive would there? On the flip side, how would you know if you were in either situation either way? More than likely unless you are with another person or group you will have no idea if you are indeed the last one standing. It's a bit of a mute point.

Being alone for awhile does tend to mess with peoples minds, it is a very real
pyschological warfare tactic to try and break peoples wills and or drive them
insane. You can however beat them if you have a strong will.

We're a social species...even after a SHTF event, we'll band together, and for the same reason as we have over the millennia...because together, we are greater than the sum of the parts... A group can accomplish more. It's all about specialization.

Alone, you'd have to be good at everything. But, in a group, you can have a good hunter, a good doctor, a good builder, a good fixer, a good cook, a good gardener, etc., etc. Alone, you're just...well, hope you're good at all of that....

No, in my mind i made it to the time i have been working to. All those poor decisions of others has led to their demise and now is the victorious moment. I will sit alone hoping to find other high quality saints to hang out with, but if i dont i will just live as long as i can because i am just victorious.

True.

There will always be bands of like minded people with some form of goal.
Although severe isolation can and will take its toll on the mind of an individual, unless there was a MASSIVE die off of the human population or that person spends the rest of his remaining years in a cave, odds are you will encounter people. Even if you don't want to.

Speak for yourself is right.

I have spent 6 days camping alone, and worked for a year and a half where I was alone except for about 30 min in the morning and 30 before bed.

Love my family, but I never get enough time alone.

Besides, Wilson is a good listener.

I tend to agree as well. There are good odds that a person will find other people. And if a person was completely alone to have survived long enough to be alone, the would probably have the right mindset to survive for years on their own.

Being able to survive alone or on your own for long periods of time makes you a formidable friend if you need friends at some point that is

I DONT THINK SO... You may during your long lonley journey stumble upon some serious scientific black project stuff. You may even find a Us built space craft after traveling down inside of tunnels that lead below sea level
Even further you may be able to apprehend one of these craft after deep studying and get to leave Earth . Even more you may find a seed bank full of dna seeds that can be grown with a powerfull computer that also is on hand and build a new civilization to take along with you and leave some here unknowing untill you can find a safe zone. SO NEVER GIVE UP.......

dunno, when you're always busy just making it through the day you won't feel the isolation as badly as when you're alone among people who are not. the contrast would be gone and with it the feeling of being cast out, but beware, you'll lose your language!

i'm quite certain that even without isolation my own skills in this regard have diminished over time from under- or disuse. iow, you'll have to scrounge up some time to read (pretty much anything) if at all possible or a decade of isolation will leave you numb and mute should you actually get to meet people anytime in the future.

PS: i don't really know why i felt the need to post this...strange

Your post clearly reveals Hive Mentality, and a Collectivist Self. Don't worry, you will not survive!

Survival has very little to do with crisis, emergencies, or TSHTF. It is, the way I see it, as much an individual investment in his own SELF, as it is in being materialistically prepared. One can have all the ammo, guns, food, water, and the likes, in the world, and not be able to survive.

A Survivalist is a person on the true path of discovering his own Self/Being, and separating that PURE entity from the Hive/Sheeple/Collectivist Propaganda, that has been shoved down the collective's throats, from the moment birth occurs. He is as much prepared, as he is an hermit - completely at ease with his own inner-Universe, not dependent on outside collective stimulation...

Surviving, to him, equals Living. No distinction, no doubts, no unnecessary caring for "the way things used to be". He truly is DASEIN, and as a profound disdain for the Das Man...
A survivalist has no Angst, thus your inquiry is not only irrelevant, and uninformed, it reveals you still have a long way to walk. Will you survive that long walk, in the company of yourself, can you face the reflection of your image in the lonely lake of your personal universe?

If not, you are not built for survival...
