So if MODs and Admins can see our IPs, why can't we all see each other's IPs?

It's only fair.

Plus, I think people do like knowing if they are dealing with the same onliners behind certain types of replies.

What can a member do with, say, my IP that a person that is a MOD or an Admin can not? If they wanted to? Anything undesireable at all?

Either all or none should see each other's IPs. Sounds fair?

Shouldn't there be a law against anyone seeing anyone's IP, except for the so-called government authorities? That is if someone can do something undesireable toward someone with their IP.

Internet is NWO when you look at it.

This is one of the most ridiculous site-specific suggestions/questions I've seen in a long time.

No such thing would ever happen on ATS, and would be a rather significant divergence from the typical responsibility website operators undertake when creating a public-facing domain.

Absurd.

Except when you get a packet from someone, you kind of have to know where to send the reply.

Study up a bit on how the Internet works, and you'll realize your suggestion is technologically impossible (among other things I won't mention but SkepticOverlord gave the right word for it).

Can mods normally see the IP address of users? Is that how it is at ATS and most other forums?

This is a matter of safety for our members. You can do a lot if you have the know how with just an ip address. What you're asking us to do would put at risk the privacy and safety of our membership.

To even suggest such a thing is absurd.

Already at risk if MODs and Admins see our IPs, correct? None of us members know them in what they will do if they have the know how you speak of. Again, why have anyone see IPs, besides authorities? Sure Mods and Admins can do their normal tasks with just seeing screen names only. Sure they can ban screen names that violate rules, without having to see IPs. What gives? Really?

This policy is not open to discussion. You will NOT get access to other members IPs, period. Our policy is to protect the anonymity of our members.

Agreed. And this has nothing to do with "fairness" or "balance" either.

This is about the security of our members. Period. End of sentence.

No need to be concerned about this, it's just policy.

Maybe the question should be: why is it necessary that all mods have this capability?..If indeed they do. There should still be a concern that all members including mods could abuse this knowledge..as it appears that you are concerned about the user's privacy. If so, then the fewer people that have this capability..the better, right?

Playing advocate here.

Peace
