From the BBC

Eight British servicemen taken captive by Iran were "forcibly escorted into Iranian territorial waters", the Ministry of Defence has said.

Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon said the six Royal Marines and two Royal Navy sailors maintained they had been operating in Iraqi territorial waters.

The servicemen were held for three days sparking a stand-off with Britain.

Mr Hoon added: "We are very concerned about the blindfolding of the men and have made representations to ... Iran."

Rest of Story

I think that if this is true, I believe the Iranans planned the whole thing to show the world that it means business. It did not seem likely in the beginning that very well trained British servicemen would make a mistake like it was said they did even if the actual borders would a bit 'dodgy'.

What do you guys think?

I think a conspiracy on the part of Iran is just as conceivable as that on the US or UK...in other words, I think its probable

What was Iran thinking do they really think pissing off England is a good idea? What did they hope to accomplish with this?

Iran is testing the resolve of the colaition. Us Brits are closer to the Iranians than the US so if something major was to kick off we'd be first to get stuck in.

It would be noisy and bloody if it got that far.

Mr Tornado, Mr Challenger and Mr Apatche is waiting to meet you ......heh

Bah, they've pissed off the UK not just England.. One of those "hostages" was from South Wales, near me in fact "Swansea area" and I think it was appoling the way they were forced into Iran terrorites and paraded like they were on T.V...

Isn't it all to convenient to blame Iran and not those who were uncapable of doing their jobs properly? Think about this... why would the UK send people who were untrained and were not aware of the country borders. Rationally, the UK would most probably stress to avoid Iran at all costs due to the political tensions.

Even if Iran did "invite" them, which is unlikely, then why would they return them back promptly and promise also to send the navigaton systems too?
Isn't Iran actually complying?

Think of the bigger picture.
