Despite a long and deep recession, the collective personal wealth of congressional members increased by more than 16 percent between 2008 and 2009, according to a study released Wednesday by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Somehow I'm not surprised. I think now would be a good time to instill term limits because of things like this. Also, government should have a rule that their salaries are linked to the median income. If the people's income declined by an average of 3%, all government elected officials should take a 3% income hit across the board. Maybe that would give some incentive to come to an agreement about the economy.

Of course their collective wealth increased. Yours would as well if you could...
- Vote in a raise for yourself periodically.
- Use your contacts (aka Lobbyists, Business Executives, etc.) to both save AND make money via 'investment tips', free handouts, etc.
- 'Work' with literally zero percent chance of being fired.
- Have a benefit package fit for a king.

Nice work if you can get it; you just have to sell your soul to the devil.
