I work overseas with Muslims and they are a good bunch of guys and girls. A little bit deluded with their Quran book but ok. I'm an aethiest and they know that but since, as they keep saying I'm a 'nice guy' that's what they think of me they have been trying to convert me to Islam. Like I keep telling them, I have to believe in God in the first place. No way in Hell that's going to happen. (Sorry For The Pun)

Anyway, the thing with the Quran is, like the Bible it's full of symbolism and different meanings for different stories, theories, myths and legends.

The 'Mud' story or symbolic reference is probably something to do with the Earth, Wind, Water and Fire theory. All that symbolism has confused the hell out of people. (Confuses me!)

Because just like the Bible the Quran was written by man. And we all know 'Religion' (Translated means 'To Submit') was written by man to confuse and control people.

That I agree with. So, basically the Quran is saying about all it's symbolism I think it is as clear as 'Mud'!!
