The Lithium deposits in Afghanistan weren't discovered until 2009/2010, so unless the Pentagon have employed people who are able to time travel, I doubt it was a motivator for the invasion of Afghanistan.

As for the oil pipeline going through Afghanistan, it is actually a real project that has been in the works for years (since at least 1995 in the case of the TAP). Unfortunately it won't be going to the sea and the waiting oil tankers, since it will actually be going to supply India and Pakistan.
