Hi there.
America was founded on a Republic, not a democracy.
The English language came from the British, who are the native true Americans
2nd to the actual real natives of Virginia: The Native Americans...(who by the hand
of those British Americans) raped, pillaged, murdered and all but extinguished them throughout history.

Speaking English isn't the World's priority as is survival.
Your skewed opinion makes me sick and I feel so sorry for you these
reasons are the best you can come up with.

To quote Michael Bloomberg:

“I think in America, we’ve got to stop blaming the Chinese and blaming everybody else and take a look at ourselves,” he said.

Interesting article

You make it sound as if China is the cause for your problems. No one forced the US government to sell treasury bills to China. I get why your oversensitive patriotism forces you to be angry at China, given that it's not nice to feel as if your country owes anything to anyone...but that's just how it is. You can get angry, you can whine, you can curse at China...but in the end, it was YOUR country that got into that situation. Just like it's not the bank's fault if you can't repay your mortgage.

Here's the main issue in a nutshell:

After WW2, the infrastructure of Japan, Europe, and large parts of Russia was destroyed. That gave the US an incredible headstart when it came to building up a strong economy. Everything went along nicely, and America prospered while the rest of the world played catch up. They weren't only militarily a superpower, but also economically.

Fast forward to when Reagan was president. He installed people from Goldman Sachs as "advisors", and it wasn't long until a wave of deregulation hit the US. At that time, the top 1% in the US earned 9% of total GDP. However, with every presidency (GOP/DEM...didn't matter), the industry was deregulated further. Of course in the short to medium term that lead to great profits. Clinton introduced a few laws that made it a lot easier to get loans, or for banks to sell loans. And then Bush came along and tried to top Clinton by going completely bonkers and letting the financial industry pretty much regulate itself. And suddenly we have the top 1% earn over 24% of GDP!! They went from taxing the rich, to taxing the poor and especially the folks in the middle. The industry created complicated financial vehicles, and got them rated by government rating agencies. Those agencies didn't really get those vehicles...so guess who they asked for an explanation...the industry itself. So they pretty much got to rate their own products, and given that all they care about is profits, guess what happened next...the financial crisis!

Reagan opened up the floodgates for lobbyists and corporations infiltrating the government. Politicians switched from serving to the people, to serving whatever industry pays them the most for their campaigns. Getting funding is their job, NOT serving the people.

The economic house of cards could only remain for so long, eventually, the truth always comes out. The government, corporations, and citizens were so focused on CONSUMPTION, without having the proper financial means, that they had to keep borrowing money. And where does the government get its money? Foreign governments!!

China had money, they figured the US is a good investment...now they know differently. That doesn't change the fact that the US owes China money. If that makes your patriotic heart burn in agony...sorry...but that's business. So no, you don't owe China an apology...but you DO owe it a TON of money because it funded your government's spending spree for decades.

And it's time the US gets off its high horse. Yes, they are the strongest military superpower, and no one will argue against that. However, when it comes to a lot of other things, including the economy or education, they are quickly losing ground. India has more honor grad students than the US has students! The economies of Asia are growing at a rate FAR above those of the US too.

That doesn't mean the US is suddenly crap. I got many friends there, and love the country. But this "we are the best, we are the champion" patriotic hogwash makes you look really bad given that in many respects you just aren't anymore. It's like a guy in a midlife crisis bragging about some highschool homerun.

The irony, which would be hilarious if not so tragic, is that you don't realise that you are a SLAVE proudly defending his MASTERS.

You are so steeped in the BS peddaled by your handlers that you are totally blind to the reality of your own situation.

Even Ron Paul stood in Congress and said the US people have become obedient and are being treated like cattle,, - but you refuse to believe it and like the emperor with no clothes, you walk around with a puffed out chest, making absurd declarations, believing you are wearing the finery of American freedom, whilst in reality you are naked and have a ball and chain attached to your ankles.

Your government has declared you and all other slaves 'enemy of the state', they rob you, exploit you, lie to you, slowly poison you, consider you a commodity, expendable, they despise you and laugh at you.....and you persist in believing you are special and have something to offer the world.

If you have even one ounce of the couratge you boast, use it to look reality in the face and do something to help yourself and others to get out of the prison you are in but just can't see.

Alright,
Someone who actually has some valid points, and can string words together in the form of a sentence.
You are absolutely right about the decisions that the US made in doing business with China.

However, you are wrong to assume that all American went along so willingly and slobbered over the chance to outsource to this new "silk road" for the promise of a quick buck.

In fact, many staunch Americans businessmen continue to operate quality enterprises that employ and sustain the American people. Don't think for a second that we have forgotten about the sellouts.

Those same people, who literally would rather be seen naked in public than come to this website would have some very choice things to say about China.

The USA represent ALL people of the world. We are made up of immigrants of all countries, famous for our compassion, our willingness to help unselfishly, and THAT is our legacy.

What unnerves me, and what history has shown, is that right when the America bashing hits its peak... the world cries out for America to save them from the boogie-man.
We are the sleeping giant.

This post best exemplifies the last 30 years of evolving American domestic and foreign policy I have read yet on ATS. Excellent my friend, I couldn't have said it better myself. Someone who gets it is a refreshing change from the norm... probably could go a long way towards explaining why us Americans who pay attention and are so jaded by our "system" don't give a flip about what other countries think of us personally - we've got too much to worry about without trying to placate a world seemingly enraged at the fact that we exist... our government on the other hand? Well...

The only two countries I would apologize to on a personal level for the conduct of our government over the last decade are Afghanistan and Iraq - and to their people exclusively. Everyone else, including China, can get the hell over it... China knew what they were doing in extending that financial helping hand, and the know what they are doing now... if they devalue the dollar, cripple us economically, they cripple themselves economically and as one of the world's emerging superpowers, they're not about to do that dance as precipitously close to their own economic "bubble" as they are.

No offense, but if you're going to apologize to anyone for the actions of a government we sooner have a chance of overthrowing than controlling, apologize to those who've suffered direct harm... not those who've built themselves off of the very human rights violations we're now accused of simply because you think they carry a bigger stick than we do... in other words, suck it up and don't be a puss.

No one's arguing that the US do a lot of good too. But right now, a lot of politicians try to make people blame other countries for their problems.

The US was always a strong defender of free markets and globalization. Well, guess what, that means you have to deal with competition. If China can produce something cheaper, that is not China's fault, it's the US's fault for not being better. It's the same with regular business. If I have a restaurant, and the restaurant across the street is more successful, I might go bankrupt.

So I very much agree with Bloomberg, the US has to start cleaning up their own backyard and stop blaming other countries.

Look, I'm Swiss, and I really wouldn't care if I didn't have a lot of American friends, the US wouldn't influence the world's economies, or if I hadn't lived there for years. But right now it's PAINFUL watching US politics and media for anyone with an economics degree and common sense!!

Want to know what I think should be done? Gonna tell you anyway:

1) LIMIT campaign funding and corporate donations and the length of campaigns. Right now, corporations have WAY too much influence in the US and lobbyists are way too strong. Politicians should be government employees with a fixed salary and campaign funds. That way, you force them to concentrate on the talking points instead of flashy message delivery and corporations wouldn't be able to "bribe" them like they are doing now. The politicians would have to start serving the PEOPLE again or find an other job.

2) Bailouts...yes, they weren't the perfect solution. But it's done, and last I checked we can't go back in time. They sure helped a bit in the short term, but only time will tell if they were worth it. I'm sure unemployment would be WAY above where it is now if they hadn't bailed out those companies. It's like comparing taking someone off a drug slowly to someone going cold turkey. By doing the bailouts, the government chose the slow method...if they add new regulations to prevent such disasters in the future. So far they haven't. And this is why it's important that people STOP complaining about the bailouts so much, and focus more on what needs to be done to prevent such a crisis like that in the future.

3) GOP vs DEM vs TP: For someone looking at it from the outside, it's almost comical. It's as the US citizens are kids watching the puppet theatre. The politicians are the puppets, but they're all controlled by the puppet master...BIG BUSINESS. And the media helps them by creating action and tension through an entertaining narration. We have people like Beck, who exaggerate to the point where handing a beggar in the street a dollar makes you a socialist and therefore also a communist. On the other side we have Olberman who gives the impression that everyone on the right is a white racist bigot. And then we have the tea party who started of as a grass roots movement and then got hijacked by big business in the form of Beck, Palin, and a few other retards. And the US citizens continue to watch this hogwash even though EVERY SINGLE PARTY is in the hands of big business. Yet we have people who happily scream "less regulation" making it even easier for business to take over the government. WAKE UP and don't play anymore!! Start caring about facts again, start reading real news instead of "opinion blogs", STOP watching partisan idiots that don't base their shows on facts (Beck's $200mil+10% of the US military Obama Asia trip lie was hilarious), and start using your brains again!!

4) Stop thinking the entire world is your enemy, or that every Muslim is a terrorist. I am a blond white dude, an atheist too...and I spend 2 weeks on a business trip in a village 50km from Mekkah during Ramadan. I walked around in shorts and flipflops, went to the market in the most restrictive Muslim country in the world, haggled with vendors, and was invited by total strangers for their evening meals. I am still alive, and no one tried to kill me even though I only spoke English. The US citizens have to realize that the dangerous terrorists are a MINORITY, and antagonizing the moderate and friendly majority (aka most citizens) is NOT a good way to beat terrorism. You are essentially turning entire nations against you. Imagine China finds a few US terrorists and decides to invade the US just because 25,000 of the 250mil citizens are deemed "dangerous". If they'd come and bomb your house and your entire family gets wiped out...how fast would you start fighting China? The offensive actions of the US is the greatest recruitment tool for the terrorists.

5) EDUCATION!! If the US is so great, why is it only at position 20 on the international education index (LINK) and Cuba's at number 4!! I often watch US news to get an idea about what the US people get bombarded with, and it frightens me how often people talk badly about "intellectuals". Look, if the US wants to remain a super power, it has to stay on top of science and economy. This only works if the citizens are well educated. Just look at the unemployment figures, the uneducated portion of the population is suffering the highest unemployment. Doesn't matter if you think government support for schools is communism, EDUCATION IS KEY! If you are patriotic, you should be strongly in favor of anything that makes the US citizens as a hole more intelligent.

6) Religion vs science vs politics: For the love of "put your deity" keep religion out of science and politics. Religion is based on BELIEF, and science and politics should be based on RATIONALITY and LOGIC based up by FACTS. You have the benefit of freedom from religion in the US, which means you are entitled to your beliefs as long as you don't force them on someone else. Religion is way to powerful a tool to control the masses. The masses should form their opinions on facts or else politicians will abuse this. Take congressman Shimkus for example who claims we don't have to fear for our environment because "god promised Noah that he won't flood the earth again". He's a candidate to chair the head of the energy commission...and guess who is his largest campaign contributor. THE OIL INDUSTRY!! He is using religion as a way to control the masses and help his puppet master. This HAS to stop, religion belongs in church and out of politics and science.

If this sounds like a rant, I'm sorry...but it's just painful to look at US politics/media because I have many US friends and I feel bad for them.

The thing is, it doesn't really matter if you went along with the government or not. You all voted for the politicians who went through with it. Doesn't matter if you're Democrat, Republican, or a TeaParty dude. The whole SYSTEM is broken and a 2 party system is stupid because it makes it way to easy to control the masses.

The Swiss have a pretty cool system which is a lot more democratic. There's a ton of different parties, and 7 of them form a council of 7. Each year, one of them gets to play president. But since there's 7 in the council, no single person can really mess it up. It would require all 7 to act like complete retards to really cause trouble. It also makes sure all interests are fairly represented and forces all parties to work together. In a 2 party system, both parties try to paint stuff as either black or white...but in reality, there's many different shades of gray if you catch my drift. We also get to vote a ton on all sorts of stuff, a lot more than the citizens in the US, that makes sure the people have a stronger influence.

An important step for the US is to FIX THE SYSTEM, and this includes the relationship between lobbyists and politicians, and the introduction of more parties. Right now they classify people as either left-wing pot smoking hippies or right wing racist bigots which is retarded. But the influence of big business on politicians needs to be fixed first, or else every new party will end up being highjacked by big business just like the tea party.

and to add... China has no unified language, they are still deeply separated over this, a unified language means alot more than even you may realize on the stage of world history.
