We've got our first state owned and subsidized piece of socialism in Detroit in the new Chevy Volt (Vault-that's where they are keeping your tax dollars now)

What else is in store for us? Take a look at this.

You will never miss another episode of NPR again!

Thanks, I needed the laugh.

Especially loved the part where if you got in an accident at 45 mph, if you were allowed to drive that fast.

With fully charged batteries and under normal driving and climate conditions, the Volt has an expected all-electric range of 40 miles (64 km), a distance longer than the daily commute for 75% of Americans,[9] whose average commute trip is 33 miles (53 km).[10] After the battery is depleted, a small 4-cylinder internal combustion engine using premium gasoline creates electricity on-board using a 55 kW (74 hp) generator to extend the Volt's range up to an additional 310 miles (499 km).[4] The electrical power from the generator is sent primarily to the electric motor, with the excess going to the batteries, depending on the state of charge (SoC) of the battery pack and the power demanded at the wheels. The distribution is controlled by the electronic control unit (ECU) of the vehicle.[11][12] At speeds between 30 to 70 miles per hour (48 to 110 km/h) and if the battery is depleted, the internal combustion engine may engage (via a clutch) to assist the traction motor to drive the output, improving performance and boosting high-speed efficiency by 10 to 15 percent.

God forbid that we actually have cars that get us off the independence of fossil fuels. We won't even get into the global warming thing.
That said, it also depends on how the electricity is produced. That can be a pollutant in and of itself.

Well,
No matter how we get there, we'd better have a sense of humor about it.

I think I'd be more supportive if it wasn't a failed company that was bailed out with billions of tax dollars and is selling tax subsidized cars to push a political agenda.

Electric cars are fine with me. It's the politics that make me want to run somebody over.

You have NO idea how much I agree with that.

Edit to make sense: It's all down to Big Oil again. HUGE LOBBY. Can't have them fail. The gov't owes them too much? No they, and similar lobbies, ARE the gov't.

Since it works just like a locomotive of a train,
are we going to have to put up
Electric Car Crossing Signs on every intersection?

Not because of the motor. There are already electric traction motors in some cars.

There may end up being special politically correct cars that will make all of the traffic lights go their way if they spend enough lobby money to get the laws changed and the subsidies in place.

What a marketing tool that would be.

Agreed and to add a little humor to politics of cars.
Whats next how many traffic tickets to the gallon on police cars, in case you ever wondered why motorcycles are used in traffic summons more then cars.
And electric police cars won't work because the light would make the battery's go dead faster.

That's funny. I don't care how PC you are.
They need to add one of those old crank style air raid sirens.
