A conservative Maryland physician elected to Congress on an anti-Obamacare platform surprised fellow freshmen at a Monday orientation session by demanding to know why his government-subsidized health care plan takes a month to kick in.

Republican Andy Harris, an anesthesiologist who defeated freshman Democrat Frank Kratovil on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, reacted incredulously when informed that federal law mandated that his government-subsidized health care policy would take effect on Feb. 1 – 28 days after his Jan. 3rd swearing-in.

He wants his free high-end taxpayer paid health care .. and he wants it NOW.
And when he finds out he's gotta' wait .. he wants to subsidize it .. obamacare style.

I understand not wanting a gap in health care .. but this smacks of hypocrisy and his demands for instant high-end health care insurance is awful - IMHO. Unless someone can tell me Politico is wrong on this. But from the looks of it ... grrrrr!

These guy's are so hypocritical, they don't even TRY to hide it anymore! They are like the fat ugly cockroach in the crevace waving it's antennas at me and daring me to use my finger to get him out of the crack so that I can squash his hideaously awful body!

Why doesn't he use a free-market alternative if he need his healthcare immediately? The hypocrisy is pretty stunning, but seems typical for those who follow his particular political ideology.

The EMTALA Act Congress passed says any illegal immigrant/non American can get 100% FREE healthcare at Emergency Rooms nationwide. The Congressman can just go to an Emergency Room and refuse to provide any kind of ID, free healthcare.

ObamaCare as passed stated within it that the EMTALA Act still stands, it even expanded the free services illegal immigrants/non Americans can get for free from our hospitals.

Perhaps the guy has been huffing too much nitrous oxide.

One word.....COBRA. Thanks to the evil government COBRA would allow him to maintain his existing policy ( if he even had one) for a mandatory term of 18, 24 or 36 months depending policy/coverage.

Laughable nonetheless. Nice find FF.

Well did not know about this Act, but I just yesterday gave the same advice you just did. A friiend of mine had recently been through the ringer with her healthcare provider(blue cross), she buys her own insurance, no company benefits for her, self-employed.. Anyway, she ran into huge issues and 10s of thousands of dollars in bills for a case a pnuemonia with her young child. And all these bills stemmed from an emergency room visit, So much for insurance! I told her next time say you don't have any insurance. I know, I know, not the right way to go, but that's the state of
emergency, haha, were at right now.

He stood up and asked the two ladies who were answering questions why it had to take so long, what he would do without 28 days of health care,” said a congressional staffer who saw the exchange.

You're about to make $125,000/year...I know it's paltry in comparison to your paycheck as an anesthesiologist:

Seriously?! A guy who denounces it throughout the campaign season, a guy who already makes 7 times more than the median income of the country, finally, when told he wouldn't be covered for 28 days, not even a full month(with the exception of February), he freaks out and demands to know why it will take 'so long'! I suppose the best part is this:

“Harris then asked if he could purchase insurance from the government to cover the gap,”

That's almost a public option. Something you and numerous others campaigned against.

Way to go Maryland Tea Partiers, way to go.

and no, it doesn't suprise me that hypocracy like this to such an extreme does not make front page on ats and only gets a few flags...I mean...it doesn't have "obama's socialist" in it somewhere, therefore, its not part of the narrative most have on this website.

I know it's wrong, but I am kind of hoping the guy breaks his ankle during his waiting period, and has a surgeon demand a few thousand from him before he will consider doing the operation....then, I hope the guy's bank account freezes up on him for a few weeks!!

heck, the guy probably has enough buddies in the healthcare field, they'll make sure he's taken care of!

Just to be clear...you can get treated in the ER without insurance, it doesn't mean they won't bill you for it. THEY WILL.

My wife has been denied coverage for the past 5 years. I have paid for one birth and one appendectomy out of pocket. It's that or declare bankruptcy.

you are given EMERGENCY medical treatment at the er....
any followup, well, no, not unless you let that follow up go long enough for it to become an emergency again!

Geez...seriously?

My wife (uninsured) was taken to the ER this summer.

The ambulance ride? $648.00. The ER visit? $2,063.00 from the hospital ...Just for the 3.5 hours between the time she had an allergic reaction to whatever she ate and the time they treated her and released her.

I have the bills here on my desk....What on earth are you talking about? You think it is free?
