Yes, Life makes us all go "WHAT?"

But I believe the true link, and what will make you happy, is to help others.

Even if you just say hello to someone.

Hello.

I admire the fact that you help others. And I say that very sincerely.

I do, in my own way, try to help others. But still, that empty feeling lingers..

You, and your thread, have given me a lot to think about tonight. I'll jot down a few things tomorrow morning, and I might post my thoughts in a separate thread. Too many things going on in my head right now...
Thanks, and good night, or good day, my friend.

I liked this one so much I pinned it up on the wall.
Happiness is so often made up of little things. My vote goes to:

10 STEPS TO HAPPINESS
Plant something and nurture it
Count your blessings - at least five - at the end of each day
Take time to talk - have an hour-long conversation with a loved one each week
Phone a friend whom you have not spoken to for a while and arrange to meet up
Give yourself a treat every day and take the time to really enjoy it
Have a good laugh at least once a day
Get physical - exercise for half an hour three times a week
Smile at and/or say hello to a stranger at least once each day
Cut your TV viewing by half
Spread some kindness - do a good turn for someone every day

So true you should always be thankful for what you have and not be pissed at what you do not.

Like the way, if it was upto the police and uk gov my life would of been even worse. At least my life has shown the police are into premeditated murder in effect in london uk, and they cannot stand it i never did one thing to justify there 18.5 years of conspiracy to commit murder.

Always begrateful for what you do have, and not pissed at what you do not. Its a very good way to live.

Not very western as you lot obsess with the material stuff.

Good op and i did a similar thread talking about hypnosis and NLP,

Basically happiness can be manipulated using NLP techniques like the swish pattern and Milton Erickson the hypnotist explained how happiness is 99 per cent a function of being proud of something in your life, in the case of the OP it's the feeling of pride you have in your family and the donations you make.

I've been deep into Buddhist thought recently and once you achieve enlightenment you're happy all the time, well happy isn't quite the right word maybe equanimity is better. But without a period of development happiness will be fleeting.

Anyways, following the four noble truths and the 8-fold path is one way to lasting happiness and it was only by studying hypnosis which is basically identical to Buddhist thought that allowed me to achieve this understanding but I am still a way a way from getting to this point, but I am pleased that I can see the path and take steps to walk down it.

Peace

Oh yeah, use google to read about embedded commands and understand how negative commands are processed if you really want to up your happiness levels here is a few thoughts abovetopsecret.com...

Tonight I am happy.

Being happy is a rare and beautiful state. And I don't think I have ever achieved happiness until now.

But you can attain happiness through simple things. Maybe it takes 3.

I became happy because my son got 85% in tax law, which he thought he had failed, and because my niece told me I am a super person, and because I remembered the people I am helping through donations.

I hope everyone can reach this beautiful stage of happiness.

you were not sent to earth to be happy.
you were tricked into incarnating into a physical body; think schadenfreude.
the whole physical universe was created for slavery.
everything in this universe is designed to frustrate you and make you chase after endless desires.
the world is in reverse.
Happiness is a constant state of bliss that is only possible when there is no thought.
