2012 Nothing is still Something

It is the year 1999...

A man in his 40's commits suicide due to stress. The cause of stress was the Y2K computer issue. Some people believed they would die. Some people rioted. Some people thought our computer systems were going to crash. A big part of the world was consumed with an underlying anxiety that "something might happen".

It is the year 2012...
A few months before December.

Again, the masses have this underlying axiety that "something might happen". This is particularly due to the media. The heads of millions filled with things like "The Mayan Calander", "Aliens", "God", "The rapture", even the movie "2012" and more. All adding up to thoughts way more powerful than computers crashing.

Leading up to the 21st (or whatever date you believe), there will be rioting, death, suicide, and chaos.
This i believe as fact, even if nothing happens on the date of said event. To me this is partly because people are already under a lot of stress and this date could be scary to some, but used as an excuse for others.

What would you do if you thought it was the end? or Rapture? or Aliens?
You might be very frightened as the date closes in.

It is my belief that if nothing happens, it will be a very eye-opening experience for a lot of the world. Nothing is still something. Imagine thinking you were going to die and then............. nothing.
Life continues but you are left with an overwhelming view of the beauty of life because it could have vanished.
You were saved, and given another chance. You value life more than you have ever known.

Could this be the purpose behind 2012? To make us think it could all be over, just to show us how we aren't appreciating life enough as a species. Could this really be the doing of ETs? To show us a new direction? To show us not to take advantage of life because it could be gone just like that? Could it all be just to bring us closer?

So if we don't see any major tangible event happen, than we can at least be satisfied to know that maybe we can value life more. Maybe we can live a little better. Maybe this is the first step in a new evolution of man.

Humans have a need to feel significant, and part of that is believing that we live in significant times (after all, WE are alive). I see this all the time on ATS. Topics pop up regarding some subject (NWO, UFOs, etc.) and people seem convinced that NOW is the time that everything will happen. They turn on the TV and see deaths and natural disasters and interpret that as a sign that the world is at its tipping point.

I can't predict the future. For all I know, martial law could be declared tomorrow and next week there could be a full-scale alien invasion. However, I CAN say that there always has been and always will be corrupt leaders, deadly diseases/pandemics, natural disasters, dangerous space objects, death, war, and general panic and mania. Humans have lived through massive volcanic eruptions, devastating plagues, and two world wars. An old calendar isn't going to break our streak.

When 2012 passes without incident, here's what will happen:

-Some people will say "I told you so." and go on with their lives
-Some people will scour the news for any and all negative events and attribute them to the 2012 phenomenon
-Some people will be convinced that calculations were off and the true Mayan doomsday is still to come (remember that Simpsons episode?)
-Some people will just find a new date to fear
-Some people will attribute the safe passage into 2013 to their god or deity

Et cetera, et cetera.

On a final note, most people who seriously study Mayan culture think the whole 2012 thing is rubbish.

I think this cartoon is applicable:

You should take into consideration that people today will believe anything especially the media.
People buy into things so deeply that they allow themselves to be consumed with fear.
Fear can become pandemic. People have feared the unknown since the dawn of time.
We are at a place in society today, where everyone and everything is connected.
MUCH UNLIKE our past.
We carry on with our daily lives but this 2012 issue is lying dormant in the minds of millions.
Millions.
Only to come flushing out at the last minute in fear.

You've proven my point exactly.
We have overcome so much as a species.
It is because the trials of life have molded us into what we are today.
2012 may shape us into a greater appreciation for existance and all reality as we know it.
It is only going to make us stronger.

based upon the number of ATS members that have absolutely no belief that 2012 will bring anything, and the even more number of people in the world that have no expectaions of 2012 bringing anything but the same they are getting today, I would have to say that I don't see 'nothing' happening as having any effect on the world at large.

I also don't see some magical awakening of consciousness throughtout the global population. all I see is more ignorant people spawning even more ignorant children.

in my opinion the only way there would be a more conscious world would be if the greater population was somehow wiped off the planet.

either by our own hand, some off world threat, or a cataclysmic change here on Earth, there has to be some event that causes the remaining people to wake up and realize that we need to overcome the oppression of an elite few that rule us all(bankers, politician, TPTB, whatever you want to call them)

I used to fear something would happen in the coming years that would be bad for us all, but at this point I find it to be the only solution to the problems that we face on a daily basis.

We all want some transformation to happen on that day and if 10 % of earth population pray for their freedom and transformation, by meditation, i have no doubt that 2012 will happen.

Nothing is something because we've sensationalised the idea that around 2012 something will happen, if nothing happens, nothing happens, it was never something in the first place but there are those who claim to have some spiritual knowledge or prophetic ability which is absolute nonsense and deception. 2012 will be the same as 2010, and 2011, and 2013 and so on until the sun runs out or some crazy mofo asteroid damages are planet or it's gravitational equilibrium.

Stop spreading nonsense.

If they can't prove it, why trust them?

Ok. Apparently you do believe in the 2012 hypothesis or whatever we should call it, but your argument that no known prophecies extend the timeline beyond that date is foolish. None of the prophecies I know of contain any specific dates. They all say things like, "sometime in the early part of the twenty-first century." Did you know that Newton came up with his own date for the rapture? He studied all sorts of religious texts, and I'm not sure how but he came up with the year 2060. I have no idea what is going to happen on 12-21-12 other than a solar eclipse but I seriously doubt it's going to be the end of the world. So what if the Mayan calendar runs out on that date? They'll have to make new Mayan calendars.
