Shanghai high-rise flats fire leaves dozens dead

www.bbc.co.uk

At least 90 others were injured as the blaze tore through a 28-storey block of flats in the Chinese city, Xinhua said.

The building was being renovated when the fire broke out. Chinese TV showed people clinging to scaffolding surrounding the building as they waited to be rescued from the flames.

Firefighters battled for several hours to bring the blaze under control.

It remains unclear what caused the fire, but witnesses say construction materials caught fire and the flames quickly climbed the scaffolding surrounding the building.

This makes me think about World Trade Center 7 and how quick it was to fall to the ground in seconds. Yet, here we have a building that is completely charred and its still standing.

So far, 42 people are dead and 90 are injured.

Some witnesses have stated that many of the workers at this building just fired their cigarette butts into the hallway and did not extinguish them correctly.

What are your thoughts on the way this building has been damaged with fire and still stands compared to WTC7 in 2001?
