By every man is his shadow.
The backdrop of a man and the direction of his view.
Holding in his hands the sands of all that is true.
Whispers in the wind and echoes through the hall.
Harmonious as the shadow reaches to the skys ocean hue.
And the man reaches down into the sea of sparkling blue.

I wrote this poem tonight (11/14) and I have no idea what it means. It came quickly to me with little trouble establishing the words. I thought hard about what it could mean and yet have not prevailed with any conclusion. I was wondering if anyone on ATS might be willing to assist me.

I have nothing to offer but I do ask for benevolence.

It seems to me you came up with random words that worked well together to make a poem. Nothing of prophetic nature or higher intelligence.

Regardless, nice poem.

it means love, love is true, it is real and given to you; ask, seek, knock

Well it could be that, I just really don't know what to make of it.

Although a very beautiful poem in structure and flow, I too have no idea what it means.

no idea what it means.

I would interpret it as a simple statement of the interplay between the conscious and unconscious minds.

By every man is his shadow.

Your mind has an unconscious component. You may not think of it when you think of your "self" but it is there, and it is you.

The backdrop of a man and the direction of his view.

And that unconscious part determines how we perceive the world, and how we perceive ourselves. You don't "choose" to like the things you do, you don't "choose" to find one thing ugly and another thing beautiful.

Harmonious as the shadow reaches to the skys ocean hue.
And the man reaches down into the sea of sparkling blue.

As above (the sky) so below (the ocean).
As above (conscious) so below (subconscious).

The shadow (subconscious) reaches up into the sky (subconscious) in many forms: your preferences, your disposition, much of your personality. And it is through the conscious mind that elements reach the subconscious. Both effect the other. You are one being, in harmony.

It came quickly to me with little trouble establishing the words.

It wasn't composed by the part of you that needs to stop and think.

If the shadow is the one holding truth in his hands, could it be his conscience?

As if the shadow is the one reaching toward the sky (heaven, white, righteousness)
While the man looks down (mortality, reality) reaching into a substance that only reflects the color of where he should be looking?

Nice meter.
I like it.

It does not really appear to mean anything. It's pretty but quite bland really. Generic even... I too sometimes get inspirational vibes that allow me to string together some interesting, yet bland, 'poetry' for lack of a better word. I would not look too deeply in to this.

You're waking up. It's amazing isnt it? Those who haven't had a taste of what you're experiencing may try to take the wind out of your sails. Shine on!

I call it an incomplete thought. I think you have more to say.

Its the pivitol moment that webbot had predicted. at what time did you write this?

idk what it means. though I will say I had a very similar thought recently. it was a vision sort of like a day dream of a giant person scooping water from the ocean.. it was wierd. but it was sort of like your poem..

maybe this is an event...

I find it haunting and lovely.
Full of darkness and hope within that dark.
As to what it means, I could say what it means to me,
or to others, or to you, or to how people see you, or how you think you are seen,

but,

I would rather say something that is more like an award,
a prize for what the poem stirred in me. A thank you, if you will.
Here it is in one sentence.

David Grouchy

This poem describes what it is like to sight our world from the fifth dimension

I do find it strange though that when I suddenly began to just write this poem, and I NEVER write poems, it was at the same time I stumbled across Romanticism (art). That is where I found my new avatar and it was just after I saw that picture and the other pictures from the Romantic era that I just began to write.

Ha!...That's weird, just yesterday or the day before I made a poem about shadows and I rarely write poetry but I restarted my webhosting (which all pages i am still working on) and decided to put a poem about shadows on the opening page. Funny coincidence.
Mine could/possibly does mean all sorts of things. i was feeling all sorts of things when i wrote it and was initially inspired by a vision I had in a dream a long time ago. All of the words might not completely stick to the original inspiration or maybe in some ways, it does... who knows. I was looking for rhyming words basically in an attempt to make just a quirky kind of poem but I'm actually much happier how it turned out than i thought I would be.

Actually, I could go into the long version of everything I was thinking and how it all played out as I was planning and wrote it but this thread is about your poem, not mine. Nice poem by the way. I just thought it was funny that yours was also about shadows.
