I remember a time when we had personal accountability. If you said or did something wrong, outside of some heinous act,you faced your accuser and dealt with it on the spot. If you got yourself a brow-beating or a knuckle sandwich, you took it like a man and then shook hands afterwards.Communities were close and people took the time to intervene and sort out their own issues.

Now days, there are so many laws which prevent us from handling even the simplest of disputes that people have forgotten things like common sense, logic and how to navigate their way through the complexities of inter-personal relationships.

Not to mention that there are a lot of mean-spirited people out there who love to start up trouble because they know how to manipulate the system in their favor to make themselves look like the victim. So many people today would rather create laws and hide behind than take responsibility for their own affairs that we now find ourselves actually breaking the law in some cases when try to take what seem like reasonable personal matters into our own hands.

now i wonder how we can live without such things in our lives.

Like being at Burger King and there was a power outage and the whole place went into chaos as they could not figure out how to count change back...Hope we dont get blasted by a huge EMP at any point.
I have a brand new fiat Punto and i get in trouble for having conversations with it as it talks to me ....Bluetooth what a great invention....if i said back when i was a kid cars were going to talk to you people would think I was crazy.

Ok i am crazy but thats besides the point....things are changing rapidly and i truely think it is Exponentially...and as i age i will wonder how i willkeep up with the times......It is Exciting and scarey at the same time.

Now i may be a kid from the 90's, but i remember alot of this from when i was growing up. School house rock made me who i am today!! the reason to get up on saturday morning was for the good cartoons like animaniacs, power rangers, and so many others. spending all day playing outside using the ol noggin as your weapon lol! we'd always make up another game to play for the day. I had lincoln logs and a tonka truck when i was really young, and boy did i love those. its rather sad to, well, see pretty much all of this gone now. i mean my nephew watches more tv than i do, while im not around at least. i remember climbing the small water tower just bc we wanted to see how far we could well, see! it was gorgeous with all the trees at sunset. The coolest commercials where on too. Like in december, they had the pepsi polar bears ones always on. zales even had a really cool one too. They could definantly sell items back then. I recently picked up a couple old albums from goodwill ( The Who and Led Zepplin) i wish i had a record player still lol. i miss the old days so much now. I can just see it now " when i was a kid..."

What a great thread. Thank you for starting it OP S&F.

I grew up in Ireland in the 70s/80s.

I remember having to speak to an operator when you wanted to make a call.
The refrigator was a shed next to the house
Vic 20 was my first computer
A BBQ was an exotic machine that was only used in exotic places and movies
Getting a music centre that played radio, vinyl and tapes all in one machine
The Man from Alantis was the show not to be missed
Doorbells with lights in them
Simon was the game to get for Christmas

Thanks for the memories OP

Some of this stuff is really starting to become collectible. I saw a news article, I think it was a few months ago, about an old Atari game (I think it was Atari) that sold for thousands of dollars.

You might try some garage/yard sales and junk shops. Sometimes you can find some valuable things when the person who is selling the stuff doesn't know. Good luck and hopefully we'll see you on the Antiques Roadshow soon.

Alright I know im only 21 but I miss the hell out of the 90's. I could have stayed in the 90's forever. Remember all this?

You know you grew up in the 90's when:

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons
You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school
You remember reading "Goosebumps"
You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, wax off"
‘Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?’ was both a game and a TV game show
You remember when Super Nintendo's became popular
You remember watching Home alone 1, 2, and 3 . . . and tried to pull the pranks on ‘intruders’
You remember the phrase, "I've fallen and I can't get up" (and have said it yourself many times)
You remember going to the skating rink before there were inline skates
Trapper Keepers were an essential back-to-school item
You never got injured on a Slip 'n' Slide
You remember boom boxes vs. CD players
You played and/or collected "Pogs"
You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet or Nano and brought it everywhere
You watched the original Ninja Turtles & Power Rangers . . . Cowabunga Dude!
The Hardy Boys were the best mystery books ever!
You remember when the new Beanie Babies were always sold out
You've gotten creeped out by ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’
You know the Macarena by heart
"Talk to the hand" was enough said
You thought Brain would finally take over the world
You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"
You remember when everyone went slinky crazy
You remember when Razor Scooters were cool
You knew Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen collectively as Michelle Tanner
You remember when teachers used to confiscate your Slap Bracelets
You remember a time before . . . Internet, text messaging, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Sidekicks, iPods, PlayStation2, X-BOX, Wii, Blu-Ray, & HD TV
You remember when light-up sneakers were cool
You remember when you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs
You remember when gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing
You remember when we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 to go to a movie
You remember when the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever
You remember playing Tag, Hide-n-Go Seek, Red Light Green Light, Heads Up 7 Up, Kick Ball, Dodge Ball, Red Rover, Mother May I, Four Square, Tetherball, Skip-It, Bop-It and Flashlight Tag
“Get Over Here!!!!” means something to you
You remember when Tickle Me Elmos and Furbies were the “IT” toys
You remember running through the sprinklers
You remember Ariel as ‘The Little Mermaid’ and you cried when Mufasa died in ‘The Lion King’
You remember getting the privilege to sit in the front seat of the car
You called the radio station to request songs to hear on your Walkman
Capri Sun, Fruit Roll-Ups, Gushers, & Fruit By The Foot were staples in your lunch box
You were an avid watcher of ABC's TGIF, SNICK, Nick in the Afternoon, Disney Afternoon, FOX Kids, Nick Junior, Teen NBC (TNBC), & Nick at Nite
Kool-Aid was your drink of choice
$5 seemed like a million, and another dollar a miracle
You begged to go to McDonalds everyday for dinner
Toys R Us overruled the mall
You wish you could get ‘slimed’
Decisions were made by going “eeny-meeny-miney-moe”
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming “Do over!”
'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest
Interactive games meant going outside to play with friends
Money problems were handled by whoever was the Monopoly banker
It wasn't odd to have two or three best friends
Being old referred to anyone over 20
It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the 'big people' rides at the fair
Playing Nintendo was the hardest thing ever
You remember before we realized all this would eventually disappear

My brothers used to love that show. It was in re-runs then too, but I guess it had a whole new following. And one of the guys in that used to be in a show called Mama's Family. Now, I loved that show.
