I go into a member profile due to interest in the views the member is promoting. Below the avatar it says : posts, stars, threads =20. But to the right it says threads started 0, so I cant see previous threads by the member?

Why is this?

Where do you see the threads 'counter'? All I see is P,F,S,W,K??????

Never mind I just figured it out, you'd think after 5 years I'd know this stuff!

There are a few things that show up in your thread count but don't leave a trace on the public boards:

1) opening the "comments" section in your profile counts as a thread
2) any threads you start that are then trash-binned (removed from public boards) for being duplicates, spam, etc
3) whenever you "alert" a post or use the "complaint/suggestion" feature it starts a thread in the mods-only forum that counts towards your thread count even though it's not visible to regular members (including yourself)

Ah I see...the examle I used probably wasnt that well explained let me try again...

Go into someones member profile overview. It lists threads started, posts, flags, etc below their avatar on the left of the screen...yea? Now imagine it says Threads started 20.... ok

Now...to the right/centre of that page is says... Member Profile Overview wit the users name below it, then
profile (posts) (threads) (friends) (rivals) Then recent threads I authored and below that recent replies i posted.

My queery was how come the thread count is 20 below the avatar, yet the recent thread authored in the main part of the page says none?

Can you hide your authored threads in preferences somewhere?

respects

Perhaps all of those "threads authored" were "alerts" to mods - alerts show as a thread count number in your thread count profile but would not show under threads authored...

As others have said before, when a person uses the "Alert" button to notify a Mod of a vulgar post, or someone trying to generate traffic to their own website by spamming thier URL in a thread etc, the "Threads Started" number increases by 1.

You cannot make your threads "hidden".

Peace

You most certainly can. Just create something hideous, something vulgar, something a little too outrageous for ATS....and it's sure to be 404'd....and.....hidden.

Ok, so Ive just opened a member profile and under the avatar it sayd threads started....17
Yet under the main heading, threads started it says 0! so this member has 17threads that were all allerts?

Whats the odds of that?

Sorry if Im sounding unbelieving, not meant and I appreciate those who are answering

P.S. do you know how long it took to find a member profile that fitted with my question !!!!

There is no eg 20.
Perhaps you can link his post.
No eg20 either.
I do not think you can have a space in the id.

I'll guess that eg 20 was actually meant to be e.g. 20 (Exempli Gratia) as in "for example".

I've seen this before as the space is a does not compute sort of situation.
Only by finding the post by that person the then links to the profile will
anyone find the profile in question.

Just look back in his threads and see the eg 20 post, perhaps he doesn't
want us to see his posts in the thread in question.
I did a members search on eg_20 but got odd results.

How do you do that.

Do what, see the member's profile?

Click on his/her name.

I'm saying the only way to see the profile is to use the link in a post by the member.
The OP never gave the member post he used because no combination or member scan finds
any thing close..
I still have not seen a link to eg 20's profile.
I say the only way must have been through a post.

Certain character and perhaps a space can not be used for an id and
is probably stated in a ATS FAQ somewhere.
ED: This does not match the OP

I think ararisq is correct and the thread's title can be read as "Why is there a threads started figure in some member's profile page (for example, 20), and yet no threads started by that member appear on the 'Recent Threads I authored' list".

But only captiva can answer that.

Hi ArMaP , sorry Im obviously not making myself clear.

Apologies to the member I am using as an example.

Link www.abovetopsecret.com...

Now under the avatar left side it says 25 threads authored...yea?

But main part of the page it says only 2 threads authored...why the diffirence?
That is the question I am asking, or am I loosing the plot

Hey thanks.
You were right but we could not understand.
Well I couldn't but thats understandable.
But not on all things heh heh.

Threads Started: 25 but only 2 as shown
Well guess he is not complaining.
Please, STOP trying to find UFOs with web cams!
Please, STOP trying to find UFOs with web cams!
BOTH the same title.
He really befuddled the system.
One took off with a lot of posts and the other was directed to the
popular one.
Yeah but he is trying to stop something people a ATS like to do.
And got a lot of web cam images that might be UFOs heh heh.
