Just because someone is a middle-class attendant of a university, does not put them above the law.

If it was a group of working-class, council estate residing, young men committing the same crimes of vandalism, arson and assault, then I doubt there would be too many complaints about them paying the consequential price for their actions.

Tell you all one thing though, i wouldnt be too bothered about paying your taxes because its obvious that the money aint getting spent where it should be.
The police for instance have been replaced with manaquins that have all been placed and are not moving. Absolute joke.

Exactly, "I was one of the cool kids on the roof" with a criminal record to prove it, isn't going to get you many job offers.

Most British students appear to have their priorities completely muddled, and will have to learn the hard way.

Somebody in our Western democracies must make it clear to our youths
that they themselves also are the taxpayers.

Somewhere around 85% of their pocket-money or subsidies consist of
accumulated taxes of all sorts. Youngsters are inclined to consider only
wages as revenue for taxes. So they are proportionally contributing to the
repair/replacement of damages, too.

Do you honestly believe that they're all middle class students? What century are you from? Lots of these students are working class, thats what they're fighting for! The right for the working class to have a university education, not just the middle and upper classes, which is what it will become if the working classes get priced out!

All over a rise in tuition fees??? Amazing when you consider the rate of increases at Universities all over the US. Hell, 3 to 6% a year which is disproportionate to the standard rate of inflation for everyday living. No one storming the capitals here. Yet!!!

University students in Britain are generally middle-class.

Of course there are working class students, but they predominantly are not.

The class connotations aren't really that important to my point.

The point is that a youngster from a council-estate who smashes the window of his local takeaway has committed exactly the same crime as a student who smashes a window in central London.

Not too many people would defend or justify the actions of the former, but there are apparently some that want to justify the latter.

I think its safe to say that most of those causing the troouble have been clearly filmed by media crews etc and hope that there should be plenty arrests for criminal damage at the least.

I would like to also point out.........how can i put this without been branded whatever......but it seems like the majority of those causing the # are of other nationalities?

I would also like to point out to those that are living outside the UK, and don't have access to the pictures, that this ''riot'' is hardly particularly serious.

We must remember that rolling news channels are in the business of creating news, as well as reporting on it.
They are always exaggerating and using hyperbolic language to attract people to their ''product''.


The ''juicy'' footage that the BBC has continuous loop is minor scuffling between the demonstrators and police, a bonfire that was started on the street, and a policeman with a plaster to a minor cut on his face.

This is not a serious episode of unrest, and I can honestly say that you'll see more trouble up and down the country at the weekend at any given professional football match. This never gets reported.

Windows smashed and missiles launched are common occurrences in and outside the ground at many football league games; I've witnessed this first hand at most games that I've attended.

There's apparently one officer that is injured ! There are often dozens of police officers injured during one night of rioting on a Northern Irish council estate, which only makes minor news.

How can you tell what their nationalities are?
Are they waving their passports?

France proved that sometimes you gotta take things into your own hands

It didn't' work. The pension age IS getting raised in France, despite the turmoil.

It did however disrupt travel, cause general havoc and destroy peoples property.

I agree with the increase in tuition fees. Too many people go to University now. Then, they complain that they are 30k in debt and can't find a job. University should be for a select few. Those who are going into the hard sciences. Those who will be doctors, lawyers, engineers. Instead, you've got people getting useless degrees because they believe they are entitled to a four year party.

For those people who have the academic qualifications and the desire to get a real degree but don't have the finances, I happily agree to have my taxes go to fund their studies.

University isn't for everyone. The UK needs plumbers too. There is no shame in that.

How can you tell someone's nationality be their physical appearance ?

Are you trying to say that the people causing trouble don't have an appearance that you personally think of as British. ie. non-white ?

Believe it or not, Britons come in all colours, shapes and sizes !

At last some of the people in Britain are begining to protest......the apathy in Britain about all that has been happening lately is incredible, we seem to be accepting everything that's happening without question!!! This was never the British, especially not the Scottish attitude. There is something wrong with the reaction of most of us, im begining to wonder if chemtrails (something ive never seriously considered) has some part to play!!! Honestly the apathy is frightening.

The BBC news are lying to us by saying over and over that "a small number of students are responsible for the violence". This is clearly not true as anyone watching the live broadcast can see, and is contrary to what protesters themselves are reporting from the streets. Beware of what the press feeds us at times like this, you only have to look at the G20 protests to see that many lies were told by the authorities.

I do not condone violence but I can understand that some people see no other option since EVERY protest held in this country in my lifetime has FAILED to get a satisfactory response from the government. Let's not even get started on the Iraq war protests. Nothing gets changed by waving a few signs about, the elites of our society find it far too easy to ignore, so anyone have any alternative suggestions to put forward to the people currently protesting?

Right now I am hearing an interview on BBC news of a "witness" blaming all violence on a sinister 'non-student' group in balaclavas... make your own mind up on the truth and relevance of this.
