British Army Sidearm?

Other countries' soldiers do so it would seem logical for British to do so but I have never found any information about them doing so.

Does anyone have any information?

Do soldiers in the 'normal' British Army (Not SAS) get a pistol?

they do. the marines and MP's keep thier pistols on them every where. even when they sleep.
dont know the type mabye a bereta?or gloch?

i heard they have just changed their sidearm in the last couple of years
to a gloch

It varies. UK SAS carry whichever sidearm each individual trooper prefers. The same goes for their main armament - although on some jobs (eg CQB) they all tend to stick to the same weapon.

If you mean SAS, SBS etc i think they get to choose
if you mean Royal Marines it's 9mm not sure what type though

I believe the SAS use Sig Sauer P226s as their sidearms

The SIG-Sauer P226 was a strong contender in the US Army's trials to replace the Colt .45, but lost out on price to the Beretta 92F. When the SAS trialled modern pistols to replace the ageing Browning 9mm Hi-Power, the choice came down to the SIG and the Glock 17, and the SIG won by a narrow margin.

The SIG is typical of the modern breed of automatic pistol, using the Colt/Browning short-recoil mechanism. An automatic firing pin safety mechanism locks up the firing pin until the trigger is pulled. There is no separate safety catch. The mechanism is double-action, so does not need cocking to fire the first shot. The weapon fires the standard 9mm Parabellum round, and has a 15-round box magazine in the grip.

The Uk troops used to have FN high powers 9mm. They now use Sigs and Glocks with one or two FN-HP's here and there.

The British army dosn`t issue small arms as standered issue.SF evaluate weapons constantly and have access to nearly every firearm made.

I thought they were still using the good old Browning HPs.

na when we run outa ammo all we do is fix bayanets.
youv seen how effective it was in iraq.

they use a modified version of a .45 cal with laser sight and it has some other minor things modified I couldn't find a pic of it in the web.

thats our SF guys man the normal plods dont get fancy laser sights
