Might change your mind a bit
"Melbourne, Aug 26 (ANI): Astronomers are predicting that a massive solar storm, much bigger in potential than the one that caused spectacular light
shows on Earth earlier this month, is to strike our planet in 2012 with a force of 100 million hydrogen bombs."
in.news.yahoo.com...
The NCAR paper cited in that article was published as a worst-case scenario and assumed zero preparation or forewarning. With so many birds watching
the Sun now, that scenario is very unlikely. Power services can brace for impact, as it were. Most satellites are hardened as it is, and they can be
powered down to prevent or minimize damage. Also, flares can occur at any time. This isn't to say solar events are not a concern, but they have
turned into an object of hysteria for 2012 doomsayers, which is mildly amusing since the NOAA SWPC projection for the next maximum is spring 2013.
Mind you, a prediction of solar maximum is not the same thing as predicting any particular solar event. Your article implies otherwise, and that's
just not correct.

That claim doesn't even make sense. You can draw a line between any two points, at any time. Not a big deal. If you mean that the Sun will align
with the galactic center relative to Earth, that is simply wrong. The galactic center does not lie within Earth's orbital plane. There can be no
such alignment. We're
close twice per year, during the solstices, but never exact. In December 2012, the Sun will be several times its
apparent diameter off from the galactic center (
Sgr A), as viewed from Earth. There's nothing
remarkable about this, and you can see for yourself in freely available planetarium software like Stellarium.
and the worlds leading astronomers are silent on the issue. Why isnt there any public discussion on this issue?
What issue? You mean the solstice "alignment" that happens twice per year? You can learn all about this in any introductory astronomy course.
Maybe they know what happened last time this occured.
And what was that? The last solstice was a mere five months ago. The last approximate "alignment" with the galactic center was only about ten and
a half months ago, with another due next month.
When will the experts acknowledge that they have no idea what this
galactic alignments effects will be or do they know what really
happened six and a half thousand years ago?
Experts know we have an approximate alignment between the Sun, Earth and galactic center twice per year, and an exact alignment is impossible because
the galactic center is not in Earth's orbital plane. They also know these approximate alignments have no significance beyond being seasonal
markers.
What exactly do you think occurred "six and a half thousand years ago?"

Why? We're nowhere near the galactic plane (though perhaps dozens of light years is "near" in galactic terms), nor will we be in 2012.
Now we have scientists compounding the issue saying there is going to be the mother of all solar storms in 2012.
Scientists have been warning about solar flares and CMEs for years. Sun-gazing satellites with a 24/7 view of our local star will help immensely. At
least people are discussing the issue now, but it's sad to see so many doomsayers latched onto it.
