Well, its a start in the right direction.

Israel to Quit Northern Sector of Lebanese Village

JERUSALEM -- Israel will present the U.N. with a plan to withdraw from the northern sector of a disputed village along the Lebanese border that it has occupied since its 2006 war with Hezbollah, an Israeli official said Sunday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu won't present the proposal to U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon until Monday. Details of the plan were not released, though Israel clearly would like assurances that militants of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah won't be able to gain a foothold there from which to threaten cross-border attacks.

This is prt of what I have talked about before with Israeli - Arab relations on its borders. Israel has no issues withdrawing but seeks assurances that the border areas they pull back from remain free of anything that can attack Israel.

Hezbollah was the reason behind the 2006 limited invasion of Southern Lebanon because of the Rockets coming cross border south into Israeli cities. The Lebanese government went on record stating if Israel withdraws from this area, there is no longer a need for Hezbollah to be armed, since no Lebanese territory would be under occupation. Hezbollah is looking at this as a win in their book, that Israel withdrew because they were scared of Hezbollah and its soldiers.

Right now I could care less who claims what as a victory. This is a step in the right direction and hopefully could snowball into other areas facing similar problems.

This should be official Monday or Tuesday as Israel is formally putting this to the United Nations.
