In no way do I mean rudeness, but if the electorate in this country actually understood what elections are and how they really work, some heads might
turn rather quickly.
Of course, in order for that to happen, the electorate would have to be interested, informed, participatory, and passionate.
In order for those things to happen, we'd need to figure some way of undoing fifty years of ritualized apathy, where when something unpleasant
happens in Ottawa the response traditionally is "What are those morons up to now?'
And for that to happen, we'd need to teach people how to think for, and rely on, themselves, instead of surrendering those responsibilities to the
bureaucracy that we all complain about but still continue to support....
...by voting in the first place. Thoreau said what you support, you condone. I assume, then, that most of Canada likes what is being done to them.
