It may be, then again I'm not sure.
Need one of the experts to have a look.

Can't find it on any EQ sites such as usgs for example. I've read from threads that the site you've cited is not all that reliable. If it had happened it would have surely made world news headlines.

Here are a couple of links to the usgs site.
The first link shows all significant quakes that happened recently.
The second link shows all recent quakes in the North American region.

Yeah, I always tend to go to USGS first, as it seems to be the most reliable, I mean, they are all prone to mistakes and slip ups, but i've found rsoe is usually pretty crap most of the time to be honest.

Its still there.

The most interesting part is the depth of the eq.
Then next interesting part is that the source is USGS-RSOE

No, it doesn't appear to be real. USGS doesn't have anything listed: USGS

The link provided above for RSOE takes you to a quake detail page that is partially filled in. I can't find anyting regarding it on the RSOE main page.

There have been a couple of times in the past year that USGS has put up a very large quake only to take it down after a few minutes and issue an apology. The big ones are calcualted by computers and generated automatically. Sometimes there are mistakes. I suspect this is the case here. Surely, if there were a 8.7 quake, it would be getting reported by now in other outlets.

Oh, and the depth is not at all unusuall.

I NEVER trust RSOE.

I find it to be a very unreliable site.

Edit: I thought something was wrong with that - Hawaii has apparently been relocated.nd you it is only about 3,200 miles out. Would you say that was close enough for Jazz?

Could the reason be that it was an inaccurate computer-generated report...as it hadn`t been revdiewed by a seismologist yet?
