The village in called Tuxkoy. 48% of all deaths in this village, and two others nearby, are from meseothelioma, a rare form of Cancer. Several hundred have died of the disease since the 80's. It's believed to be caused by natural deposits of erionite in the area.

Skynews - Families moved away from Cancer village

According to the article, 200 families have been moved away from the area by the Turkish government, with thousands more to be moved as soon as accomodation is built for them. Apparently the government there is contemplating demolishing the entire village and burying it under earth. Why would you need to bury the remains of a village if the illness is caused by minerals in the rocks around the area? Interesting story.

Do Turkey even have nukes or nuclear facilities?

Edit : They're currently designing their first Nuclear power plant.

I just find it strange that people there would get sick but it doesn't happen anywhere else? Surely the mineral isn't that rare that it's unique to that area. So why isn't there more cases like this?
