I didn't even realize it was you who started the thread.
But how many people will "blame" Obama for this? Add it to the list of "atrocities" about this Indian visit?

Meh...

I can see the need to remove coconuts from the trees overhead.
That's a precaution and they should probably be doing it for everyone anyways.
The rest of the trip - the warships, the taj mahal hotel, etc .... BAH!

But the coconuts ... that's not only acceptable but I should happen. IMHO

I'm surprised there hasn't been a discussion of the migratory habits of coconuts along with a mathematical analysis of the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow with a comparison of African and European swallows.

Just as the U.S. Navy has been training dolphins as working members of our military, we all know that Al-Qaeda has been training African swallows as terrorists.

No one wants a suicidal African swallow laden with a coconut to pull an AA11 and UA175 on the president's motorcade while he is India.

The Secret Service is obviously familiar with Monty Python and has obviously seen that old Pauly Shore movie Bio-Dome where the character Dr. Faulkner goes insane and rigs some bombs disguised as coconuts to blow up the dome...and we all know just how much Al-Qaeda is inspired by the shenanigans of Pauly Shore.

So, it seems to me to be prudent planning as far as the safety and well-being of our POTUS is concerned. I totally agree that Biden is the best Assassination Insurance since Quayle, and I'm certain that gives the Secret Service that little extra motivation they need to ensure that the POTUS is safe, even from the off-chance of suicidal African swallows trained by Al-Qaeda laden with bombs disguised as coconuts.

Coconuts are being removed from the trees?

"Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?"

"Not at all. They could be carried."

"What? A swallow, carry a coconut!?"

"It could grip it by the husk."

"It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios....".......

Sounds a bit like the way some ATS thread conversations tend to migrate.....

Maybe the Indian authorities have got wind of a plot to make "coconut bombs."
Sure it sounds silly, but then again so did the "shoe,""underwear"and "butt" bombs that we have all heard about.

Seriously though,it seems a bit of a waste of food if the coconuts are not ripe and have to be chucked away.

Sheesh. It's not for safety.... They need all the coconuts to provide Michelle and the entourage with fresh daiquiris in cute little coconut cups.

LOL sky,

U.K.'s Cameron, Pinching Pennies, Goes Commercial

U.S. politicians may dream of one day sinking into the presidential bed aboard Air Force One. David Cameron, returning last night from his first trip to the U.S. as British prime minister, took a business-class seat on board a scheduled British Airways flight.

Cameron, trying to cut Britain’s deficit, its largest since World War II, is scaling back on the chartered jets his predecessors used for overseas travel and told his staff to book him on regular flights. Yesterday he traveled to New York from Washington on Amtrak’s Acela train.

“We have got a lot of money to save,” the prime minister told ABC News July 20. “We’ve got a very big budget deficit, so we can’t go spending money on executive planes, sadly.”

Go ahead and make fun.

Since 150 people die annually from falling coconuts, which is more than die from shark attacks, I think it's a prudent plan.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say.

I heard stories of people killed by coconuts in the Philippines, from people who live there. Such casualties are relatively commonplace.

If you don't know facts, don't bother to post.

wouldn't it be easier to put up small fences around the trees instead of removing the coconuts?

You know perfectly well who "they" are. They are the great they. The ones who make up cliches!

I think my grandmother was one.

I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts
There they are all standing in a row
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head
Give them a twist a flick of the wrist
That’s what the showman said

sorry, couldn't resist. moderate away if you feel the need
