It's obviously natural for girls to have babies at that age but where in the world were her parents when she was having sex? They're the irresponsible ones. Actually I think selfish is a better word, unless they think that a child is fit to raise a child in which I'd then call them stupid. Let a child raise a baby all by itself and see how long both survive...

I didn't think about having sex at that age, let alone know how to have sex. It makes me wonder how and why both children are sexually mature enough at that age to know how it works and to perform. Maybe I'm thinking about my personal childhood experience too much.

I'm just glad no one's blamed tv or video games yet.

While id never let my child be this situation, we can't allow ourselves to judge the girl for her actions nor can we justifiably judge the parents for allowing this to occur. In the past, there were numerous underaged children getting married and bearing children of their own. Though it is the past, it proves that each family or tribe (as tribes were large extended families) had its own way of life. Today this ideology still exists in most related issues whether the general public approves of it or not.

I wish this family luck. They are going to need it.

I like how you blame "today's society" as if having sex with and getting minors pregnant is something new, don't be so naive. Pick up a history book, I think someone like you would be surprised to learn that sexual relations with minors (yes even as young as ten) was common back then, even socially acceptable. You can stop being mad for no reason now, we are much better off today

Read the article..it says that she was living with her boyfriend who is in the same age range...It is a peculiar story proving that nobody is caring for or about the children today in many parts of the world, probably most parts.

The second story about the five year old in Lima, Peru is even more devastating.

The problem is that to understand the abnormal nature of these children when menses does not usually set in til around 12 makes one wonder.

It is never too early to begin sexual instruction it seems. People should take a listen and realize that puritan ways should be discarded so that children can learn early how to protect themselves from dangers in sexual activity.

Also, people should be deplored that children are having to undergo sexual experiences without fully understanding or being prepared for them.

Actually I used to get aroused around the same time too, age 5 or 6.

but there was a difference.. I was aroused by older women, like madonna! she was perhaps hypersexual on tv.

I didn't think any girl my age was hot. Nor did i even know Madonna was hot either.. I wouldn't call it sexual arousal. It was just well... not as much sexual organ related rather than whole body pleasure.

The point i wanted to make is that child molestation and sex at ages this early has nothing to do with religion in our current society. And yes, in Romania it's not normal to give birth at that age, even if it sounds insane for some of you...

The five year old gave birth way back in 1939. That was only the youngest "recorded" birth. I don't think the world is changing, its always been like this, you are just now realizing it. PS. Before 1930s they probably did not make records of the ages of mothers?

They are not ready to be mothers at less than 18, its sad that people do stuff like this. They should not have sex with others than those whom they marry, and you should not be able to marry before you turn 18.

Oh hey, another "you can't win" thread on ATS. These moral and societal norms conflicts bring out some of the worst in us I believe. You end up seeing the ugliness inherent in the human being that lives where you live and also the ones that live not where you live. You may think certain habits are gross, maybe even evil. Well you are absolutely right, based on what those who raised you and those you live and walk among believe or legally adhere to. But guess what? Those whom you may call sick and degenerate may have their very own little gossip forum where they can point their little fingers in your direction, claiming you are one sick son of a bitch for doing something you do everyday that no one around you would spend a second thinking about. They would be absolutely right as well.

Because right and wrong is completely within the eyes of the person living their own life as they see fit, and this is what makes human beings beautiful / ugly. Variety in all of it's forms. The only winners in an argument between moral right and wrong are those that get to impress their will on others, which in itself can be seen as wrong... or in some cases right, if you're one of those people who believe you're showing them a better way.

I'm not sharing my views on this pregnant 10 yr old. Whether I think it is wrong or right I will be vilified and / or praised. Arguing morality on ATS is like nailing jello to a tree. Well I can see this subject has really got alot of people spouting off. Just a reality check here. The child's a 10 yearold romanian immigrant in Spain. That means she's Gitana, in otherwords Gypsy. Here in Spain the Gypsies have there own society their own laws and for the most part they take care of their own. Their children are often sent to beg and steal instead of to school. Does that mean I approve, of course not. But living in a country that has gypsy populations means tolerating their 'culture', of which they are fiercely defensive. Of course local authorities are looking into it, but gypsies never cooperate with local autorities. If there's some justice to be applied it'll be Gypsy justice - and nobody but they will know. BTW, Gypsy justice when applied is pretty darned severe by civilized standards. At least this kid got all the medical attention she needed, Spain's a civilized european nation with excellent socialized medicine.
Sexual mores are the product of the culture from which each of us are indoctrinated. While 10 years old is too young in my book, so is 15, and that's the age my American Mom got pregnant with me. Lot's of underage pregnancies happening all the time, and everywhere.

I'm Romanian and i find this disturbing. Not only the fact that a 10 year old is allowed by her parents to have a sexual life, but also by how the parents of that girl are trying to minimize their responsibility by invoking customs. And also by how both the Romanian and the Spanish government are turning a blind eye to this.

Let me make this very clear: it is absolutely not "common" in Romania to marry/have children/have sexual relationships at a prepubescent or even pubescent age. The age of consent is 15 by law. Everyone that I ever knew in Romania had children in their 30s or late 20s. My mother had me when she was 20 and I almost got adopted by my grandparents cause my parents were not married (yet) and were just not mentally and financially prepared to have a child.

It's not a "rural" thing either, how some of you suggested. In the country people tend to be more conservative, traditional and religious. Even at an older age, having a child outside marriage would be considered shameful in the countryside of Romania.

Arranged "marriages" between children do happen within Roma communities, but a) they are not common (more like a minority within the Roma minority) and b) they are, of course, illegal. Even so, as far as I know, not even in these communities, a 10 year old giving birth is not something to be condoned and is not "common".

I blame the Romanian government who keeps turning a blind eye to such sort of problems, as well as to any other problem within the Roma minority.

This is not a conspiracy. What is ATS coming too?!

It is uncommon in rural Romania for children to have children!
It is common amongst gypsies to marry young and have children at young ages, but again, there is a difference(a big one I might add) between the Romanian culture and the gypsy culture!

Where? From this Romanian womens mouth, matey. And, whether you admit it or not, rural Romania is stuck in the 19th century. Just so you don't feel picked on though, rural France is much the same and alot can be said about some of the more "rustic" places in the UK. Rural folk tend to be quite different from "townies" the world over.

It's always the way, isn't it. Someone makes a comment about some random country and, seemingly from no where, someone from that country will chime in, get defensive about it yet not offer any comment to the topic. It's almost as if they patrol every thread in the hope they can pick up someone criticising their place of residence.

Please read then article and associated stories, then come back and whine.
