I've noticed that people are taking down their American Flags one by one.

What do you think it means?

You haven't been to Louisville lately, have you? I have not noticed a lack of Americn Flags here.

I have a neighbor displaying one right now.

I suspect nazified power hungry freaks on Homeowners ASSociations are responsible fo this, if truly they are disappearing.

Possible loss in hope among others, but like I said, in my city I see no lack of flags displayed. Year round, too. Course fourth of July brings em out all the more. I also suspect some of flags flying are there from a fourth of July past!

Well, you could ask Sorcha Fail.

whatdoesitreallymean.com

But I wouldn't, if I were you.

No worries, they are just taking them down to wash, and put them right back up- upside down. Like they should be.

We can't have a dirty country in distress, now can we.

When do you think it will get here? And since yours started first, will it end first too?

So you correlate lack of flags with depression?

I haven't seen any upside down flags as of yet.

Just choosing not to fly 'em.

Here is southern California (San Diego county) I seem to see more mexican flags
than I do American flags. On the homes and on the cars as bumper stickers.

The truth is, the flags should be taken down around this time of the year to prevent weather damage.

at least you guys over in the states can actually fly your flags outside your homes. Over here in the UK if i was to fly a St.Georges Cross (the flag of England and not the United Kingdom flag) we either get told to take it down by local councils or have the police knock on your door to say its being seen as racist toward to other races and religions in the area

Still doesnt stop some of us though

What's with the obsessive flag-flying anyway? It looks totally absurd, as though you have to announce to the world that you are patriotic or you'll disappear in the night. When I was young, there was none of that crap -- and I grew up on naval bases. Half of my life was spent in the US, the latter half being in Europe. Gotta tell you, the flag thing is embarrassing.

Apparently some people would agree with you.

I grew up overseas as well.

Really?

It's funny that you relate the disappearance of the flag with the Nazis.

Because the Nazis were the only people as patriotic as Americans.

Coincidentally they also trampled all over foreign territory for corporate interest.

But being overly patriotic never hurt anyone, right?

OUR POOR FLAGS!

OUR FREEDOM!

Give me a break.

The flag is a symbol of pride in your country. What has the U.S. done in the past few decades that we should be proud of?

are you talking about the last month? the last few years? or are we going back decades?

I ask because after 9/11 I saw a marked increase in the outward display of patriotism, But over the past few years I have seen less and less flags being displayed. I also think that there was a general feeling that if you did not portray the proper level of patriotism at that time you would be regarded as a "terrorist"..

In the past few years there has been a shift in the paradigm and a campaign to equate American patriotism with "Homegrown terrorism" has been underway. some demographics are more susceptable to this idea therefore the decline you seem to have observed may be more noticible in some areas versus others.

Ok that said,

I almost feel like I put to much effort into my response to a thread started with an OP consisting of two sentances.

Respectfully,

~meathead

WAS, not IS - Remember the blood of those who fought for it.

We are the worlds largest producer of monopoly money, pornography and weapons of mass destruction?

Seriously - We're in a bit of a slump just now.

I'm not sure we're gonna make it.

It's bound to get real ugly with stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction stored in every corner of the globe.
