It seems that Europeans, so enamored with obama in 2008, cannot understand his quick fall from grace here in the U.S.

Before he was elected to the White House, Barack Obama drew 200,000 ecstatic fans during a 2008 visit to Berlin. Analysts predicted he would have easily been elected France's president if he had been a candidate there. And the day after Obama's election triumph, practically every U.K. newspaper splashed his picture across their front pages.

Europe had fallen in love.

Two years later, Obama is struggling at home. With the midterms looming, the president's approval rating is at just 47 percent and most indicators suggest that the Democrats will take a hit on Tuesday.

Many Europeans don't get it.

I guess Europeans - used to being taken care of by their socialist governments - don't understand that Americans tired of the Bush administration - took a chance and voted for someone promising "change".

When the promise of "change" turned out to be mostly a lie, and the only change we got was change no one really wanted, Americans are calling BS and are turning to something else again.

It's also demographics. I recently posted another thread showing that only 20% of Americans consider themselves "liberal" - less than half the number that consider themselves "conservative".

may the sun never set on the gloriousness that we all know as obama.

now to the reality of the situation europe has never had great taste in leaders themselves.

Someone could always explain to the Europeans that Americans want political leaders who actually represent, I dunno, American interests. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Europe or anything like that. I am just a bit tired of both parties representing interests other than those of the people who voted them into office.

European countries are continually drawing down their militaries, and if I had to guess the reason for this is to fix their budget issues, while at the same time knowing the US Military will be there if things go wrong (England as the most recent example of this).

Also they should understand the Congress runs day to day operations of this country, not the President. We should also look at the number of times a President and a Congress of the same party remain that way. Americans get leary when 2 out of 3 branches of Government are the same party, and using the last few years as an example, we can see why.
