During the 1980s, resistance fighters in Afghanistan developed a
worldwide recruitment and support network with the aid of the USA, Saudi
Arabia and other states. After the 1989 Soviet withdrawal, this network,
which equipped, trained and funded thousands of Muslim fighters, came underthe control of Osama bin Laden. In light of evidence from the recently
completed US embassy bombing trials, Phil Hirschkorn, Rohan Gunaratna, Ed Blanche, and Stefan Leader examine the genesis, operational methods and organizational structure of the Bin Laden network - Al-Qaeda......

Jane's is hardly privy to any confidential information that they actually publish, and basically sell themselves as the best civilian intelligence publishers for those with an interest in the military and intel.
For some interesting information about the CIA, ISI and Jihad in Afghanistan, read these books. They are quite good and free to boot:

UBL worked for the CIA for years, but he was one of many. I haven't seen any evidence to suggest the CIA, ISI, and Arab Jihadis are no longer in cahoots.
I also don't see any reason why a faction within this country who fancies itself more international than American would have any qualms about helping the government gain more raw power, strengthen the US dollar, and cash in on the investment of carrier battle groups, all by actively fighting a fictional enemy in a wag-the-dog scenario.
If 'absolute power corrupts absolutely' is to be taken as an axiom, then the leaders of the United States must have at least the small amount of corruption needed to do some misdeeds here and there. This country is undoubtedly the strongest the world has ever seen.

Anybody notice how terrorism has been ramped up off in Russia? It's unreal how much chaos is breaking out there right now. I can't help but wonder if it's been so perfectly timed as to play out as a subliminal backdrop to the RNC convention. It's BE AFRAID, ALL THE TIME, afterall. They're saying it, and as they do, the airplanes are being blown out of the sky, car bombs are going off in Israel (up to this point it's been relatively peaceful, recall), Afghanistan and Russia; now those children in Russian have been taken hostage. It's madness. This has been the bloodiest week in some time, regarding terror. Cowinkydink? I think not. All I can say, is thank God we havn't experienced it here. Perhaps the powers that be know how contrived it would appear. Like the stupid and evil PSY OP Berg beheading.

I'm very dubious about the CIA having any links to the Russian problems in Chechnya, perhaps you could enlighten me?
And please don't spin me a tale worthy of a Tom Clancy on methamphetamines novel.
