As far as I know, they haven't told us how the calculation is made.
My personal theory is that the formula begins "20 divided by the number of posts", and then throws in the number of stars and flags in some way. (You may notice that all newcomers have a K score of 20 on their first post, which will drop to 1 by their twentieth post if they don't gain any stars in the meantime)

from what i have seen the more stars and less flags = a greater K rating.

Some newb's have a higher K rating than me, but i think only because they have no flags but stars from contibuting to other threads.

So basically it's like you get Karma points for contributing more to other threads than creating your own.

Which does make sense.

Although i think there should also be a rating for how many stars you give other members. I have seen some that wont give any stars but expect many and then the total opposite as well.
