'Time traveller' caught at 1928 Chaplin film premiere

au.news.yahoo.com

Belfast filmmaker George Clarke, a keen collector of Charlie Chaplin memorabilia, has made a bizarre discovery in a DVD of the premiere of Chaplin's 'The Circus' made in 1928.

In the footage, he noticed a person dressed like a woman walking by the camera, talking into a flat black object that appears uncannily like a mobile phone.

The only catch - there were no mobile phones or towers back in 1928.

I honestly do not know what to think of this. I've watched the clip about 20 times and I can honestly say it looks like a woman (or man in drag!) talking into a mobile phone.

Is there any technology of the day that could explain this? I was thinking a hand-held radio (not even sure if they were invented at the time) but that doesn't explain the talking into the device - which the person in the clip is very obviously doing.

Thoughts???

This is the video...(actual Chaplin clip starts at around 2.35 with the rest being explanation by the person who found the clip)

You are kidding I hope.

Zazzafrazz made this go viral with this post here a couple of days ago.

Yahoo! got it from us - not the other way around.

Still, flag for trying - it is an interesting story.
