World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Vince McMahon has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to stop Connecticut election workers from asking WWE fans to cover up their wrestling garb at the polls.

The husband of Republican Senate candidate Linda McMahon filed the suit in federal court Tuesday. He says Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz is violating free speech rights by telling local registrars they can ask people to cover up or return wearing something else.

State election law prevents political advertising within 75 feet of the polls.

But McMahon calls Bysiewicz's order a "flagrant act of censorship and discrimination."

Bysiewicz hasn't responded to a call seeking comment.

State attorney general and Democratic Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal has recused himself from the lawsuit./quote]

What are your thoughts?

I think that they have the right to wear what they want.

I also believe that people shouldn't be restricted in what they can or can't wear at/to the polls, however if there weren't laws prohibiting these kinds of things, people would be holding signs and engaging in political activism at the polling stations, trying to sway peoples' votes as they walk into the polling station. It would then get pretty ugly at all polling stations as activists of all candidates would be vying for your attention/vote.

Linda McMahon, owner of the WWE, is running for Chris Dodds' US Senate seat, in a hotly debated contest against Dick Blumenthal. The reasoning behind is that WWE gear would be tantamount to advertising for McMahon, the same way that DP gear (clothing, signs, etc.) would be for Blumenthal.

well thats basically what happens here in Australia whats the difference from having people handing out brochures of parties that are still going to screw you over. MSM and companies do it all the time before the actual voting day.

If a WWE shirt can sway a vote, from someone who was going to vote for the other candidate, then we have alot more to worry about then the clothing.

Peace, NRE.

What if the person wearing the WWE shirt is voting for the other candidate?

No one is to say that all WWE fans are staunch McMahon supporters.

And like the previous poster said, if a wrestling shirt is going to sway someones vote, the country has a bigger problem.
