The United States has dropped out of the "top 20" in a global league table of least corrupt nations, tarnished by financial scandals and the influence of money in politics, Transparency International said on Tuesday.

Somalia was judged the most corrupt country, followed by Myanmar and Afghanistan at joint second-worst and then by Iraq, in the Berlin-based watchdog TI's annual corruption perceptions index (CPI).

The United States fell to 22nd from 19th last year, with its CPI score dropping to 7.1 from 7.5 in the 178-nation index, which is based on independent surveys on corruption.

This was the lowest score awarded to the United States in the index's 15-year history and also the first time it had fallen out of the top 20.

In the Americas, this put the United States behind Canada in sixth place, Barbados at 17th and Chile in 21st place.

2010: 7.1
2009: 7.5
2008: 7.3
2007: 7.2
2006: 7.3
2005: 7.6
2004: 7.5
2003: 7.7
2002: 7.6

It appears that under Obama’s second year in office the United States has reached its most corrupt point since it has been tracked by the Corruption Perception Index. This means that even President Bush was more transparent under his regime than under the Obama regime. This is such a disgusting era in American history we can only hope that after this election whoever wins cleans up the place and makes some real ‘change’(s). Obama you have failed epically!

Notice that in Obama's first year of office, the nation's corruption rating was better than the last three years of the Bush administration. Misleading, much?

Maybe you should give Obama a chance. He only has one year of his presidency, out of two, ranked lower than George Bush. There is a 50/50 chance that the problem is actually something that has changed between 2008 and the present. Suspend your judgment and wait for next year's report.

He had a chance. His first year started better than Bush's 2nd term, and only as good as Bush's worst during his 1st term, then became worse than Bush.
The trend is disturbing: it's obvious Obama doesn't like to be outdone.

Maybe it's just me, but I am absolutely sick of these stupid partisan politics coming from ignorant people. Obama has been in office for two years and still has not finished dealing with leftover business from Bush's term in office. Do you really think that the current government policy reflects the actions of one man? Do you really think that Obama is the source of all corruption in the White House? Are you ignorant, or just a shill?

P.S. don't you dare call me a Democrat partisan hack. I don't give a damn about either party in the US. And don't act like I'm some Bush-hating idiot that blames eight years of bad government on one man. I'm not retarded.

The simple fact is that your precious utopia is decaying right in front of your eyes, and it is not the president's fault. It is a far more complex problem that cannot be reduced to a simple scapegoat

P.P.S. there is only so much outcry against Obama because 'Socialist' has become code for 'welfare recipient' has become code for 'black'. It's racism, though you are free to deny it and free to be extremely wrong.
