while your description sounds very austere and makes me nostalgic for a time and place i'll never live in. the internet and computer that you're using would never exist without currency. people don't invent or mass produce complex products in the hopes of selling them for 1000s of oranges or millions of rugs. there's always been lost empty people who die alone and get rapped up in possessions, it existed before money and it will exist until the end of time. i'll argue with anyone that money is a social good though, there's a reason why every advanced society has invented and used currency, its efficient and it allows for things that bartering just can't supply.

Sadly I think you're attacking this at the wrong angle. Money is here because bartering didn't work. However, the fact that America prints its own money is ludicrous. Soon the economy will collapse and Americans better pray to God that they can convince Mexico and Canada to agree to a North American currency that is based on gold, like the rest of the world. Sadly for America, I can pretty much guarantee you that Canada will not even entertain the thought. And don't be blaming Canada for not sacrificing their economy to the States.

And that is how it should be for the most part but as another post put it, we wouldn't have computers, ipods or cell phones if we had kept totally on the barter system.

Hmmmmmmm America is now in Afghanistan
And how much you want to bet that by the time America leaves your country there will be a ATM on every block and even a Chase Bank in your village?

Read my location.

Very interesting post and I agree with your observation. We are all becoming good little slaves.

Start researching about here in the good old USA the salary difference. It's wider here than elsewhere and we pay our teachers, farmers, childcare workers frap wages while the Beyounce is worth something like 650 million dollars. Our values are warped BIG TIME. But hey don't get me going, as stated before just read my location.

I have been happily unemployed now for almost two months, no more corporate america for me. My son and I are actually gardening and talking together. My neighbor came over for coffee and we talked about our vegetable gardens we're putting in next year.

Again, very good post.

The New World Order is spreading out and assimilating inch by inch each and every nation. up:

You stick to trading rice for wheat and i'll stick to educating myself in a modern university, eating good food, socialising with many different types of people and socialising in clubs, pubs and other such social venues.

You stick to arguing over the price of a fish. I'll happily choose from a thousand different meals from the shop.

Cheers.

omg .. let me start off- im from canada and im turning 19 in 2 months.
i didnt like school very much and so i didnt do very well
right now im talking 6 months off of school (i want to get into a electrial apprenticeship)
and so for the six months ive been working in a factory doing shipping.( trying to save some money..)
im at my breaking point.
i feel like life is just to work and to be a slave.
ive been a very negative person since ive dove in the conspiracy world and the darkening light of the real world of slavery we live in.
my family, my girlfriend . i feel like im losing conncection to them! and im not sure why
i try to open up, tell them what im thinking about things and what i feel.
and they just pull the -negative- card
you know, they do say once your mind is open to the real world their is no going back. and that was 5 years ago.

this story, real or not has really done something for me. at the perfect time!
thank you very much for the possitive idea
it has givin' me hope! S+F!

I already gave such examples, hence I swapped my knowledge in IT with another man who was a builder. He built a deck in my house, and I built him a HAN (Home Area Network).

What can we trade a computer for? For what ever you need. You can trade a computer for food, ipod, and a beautifully designed desk for your bedroom, it is up to you.

While money is different, you give items imaginary value, which is controlled by who? ZZZ why do you think we are in this mess? We have enough food, we have enough land, we have enough water, we have everything, yet millions of people are starving, millions more are homeless, millions more die because they can't trade medicine due to money.

I don't know how I can help you from here in New Zealand, but one thing I can advice you on, is to start with your family.

Think about the skills you have, ask your family if they need any of those skills at hand, then think about what you need, and trade with them.

From your family, move on to your neighbors.

I mowed my neighbors lawn for a packet of port royal

What happens when you've traded clothes to everyone around you, and now they don't want to trade their food for your clothes because they already have enough clothes? How many clothes equal a computer? How many clothes equal the energy bill to run that computer? You are going to need more clothes to get what you need.

What about the guy that doesn't have any resources or skills to make a product for trade? Does he just do slave labor around your house so he can stay for dinner? Or, does he just hang around by the trashcan because he has nothing of value to trade except for his slave labor, which he will not do because after all he doesn’t want to be a slave in the system either.

What if you really want this diamond ring for your GF because you want to ask her to marry you, but the jeweler doesn’t think any amount of your clothes is worth his diamond ring? However, he will trade it for two cows. So, now you have to go find out how many clothes the cowguy wants for his two cows. What if there was something you could trade that everybody wanted because it is tradable for any and everything? You know something that could act as a medium of exchange between products and place a value on those products to make it easier to trade.

What if you were a farmer and all of your crops died mid-season and you now have nothing to trade except dried up dirt. You can't trade for anything now because you always use to trade your extra food for the things you needed. Everyone else is hungry because they use to trade you for food. Wouldn't it be nice if there was some sort of medium of exchange that you could have saved up in a secure location to use just in case your crops failed? So, that even if you don't have a product to trade you can still trade this medium of exchange for what you needed.

I don't know something like money…?

Bartering is not a bad lifestyle, but it is not the most ideal one either.

I really get a nasty feeling when talking about Afghanistan. Afghanistan isn't even a state...it's a FAILED state! And it's not just common goods they trade....they trade their own children or family members, usually the female ones.

Afghanistan is a not something I would ever want to emulate.

However, the idea of bartering for services or goods is still something achievable in just about any country. People trade with each other all the time, whether you realize it or not.

But I've yet to meet someone that would want to trade chocolate chip cookies for accounting or project scheduling services.

and much like the person above said...the concept is nice, but it's idealistic

If someone really likes your designs then he will be ready to trade what ever for it.

Get it?

I advice you to read the whole thread, which answers much of your questions.

Great thread oozy!

The main problem we have in Europe with the barter system is of course that most of the pesky Tax Authorities won't allow it - they will tax you for the services done, and sometimes even charge you for avoiding paying tax - IF, they'd find out!

The only way to make it work here under the current conditions is to swap services in secret under the table - the black market style, through friends and their friends.

Please excuse my ignorance, but! what the heck is 'Port Royal'? - sounds like cheap whiskey!

Nah! you said "packet" so it's probably cigarettes/tobacco - right?

Actually that is not true, it can work on any scale.

Money is not real, that is why we are having all these problems, because we are trading with something not real.

I mean common, the American government is printing money from thin air.

Pure trade is trading real things, corporations shouldn't exist, since they exist they have locked us in the matrix. We are stuck, they are the slave masters, no one can deny it.

Life can be quiet easy with real trade also, you just have to think beyond money.

yes! yes! Yes!!!! YES! MONEY IS NOT REAL - well put... this is why people NEED to barter.. Everyone can do or provide some thing or some kind of service.. start "free lancing: your wares on Craigs list or local neighborhood papers... ITS FREE.. look at the "junk" in your home... then trade for what you need...

BEWARE of ebay and paypal.... THEY SUCK YOUR MONEY OUT OF YOUR ACCOUNTS... I started a website with a company for dropshipping (they are partnered with ebay) and when I listed MY dropship products on MY ebay website... then EBAY advertised their products on my page at a MUCH MUCH lower price.. even though I was paying for my ads.... what a rip off.... they undercut by $$$$ lots of money the people that pay to use thier service... I CANCELLED my service with paypal and ebay... what a lesson.. at least I got out before they got all of my money

Yes it is Tobacco, I smoke a lot

I needed a big one that would last me one week at least, and it did

Life can be quiet burden free when trading real things. Let's be honest:

Depressive disorders affect approximately 18.8 million American adults or about 9.5% of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year. This includes major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, and bipolar disorder.

www.upliftprogram.com...

- The rate of increase of depression among children is an astounding 23% p.a. [4]

- 15% of the population of most developed countries suffers severe depression. [5]

- 30% of women are depressed. Men's figures were previously thought to be half that of women, but new estimates are higher. [6]
