Just to let you all know, this is my first post here on ATS. ive been replying and readin for a while, but never found a subject to post on until now.

My wife is Japanese, and we live in America but she was born and raised in Japan so we came here this year for a nice month long visit to her family who live in Tokyo. On the long plane ride to Japan, my wife and I were talking about our future trip to Mt. Fuji. She brought to my attention that at the foot of the mountain, is a triangular area where people constantly get lost in the woods and are never seen again. i did some research on this once i got to a computer. it seems that most of these people go into the woods to commit suicide. but there are also groups of people who go in and get lost due to compass malfunctions and are never seen again. it just struck me as really odd that this place is said to be in the shape of a triangle, and its on almost the exact opposite side of the world as the bermuda triangle. i found this article about it online, let me know what you guys think...could it be some sort of a connection to the bermuda?

"The perfect place to die." That's how Aokigahara was described in Wataru Tsurumui's bestselling book The Complete Manual of Suicide. A dense, dark forest bordering Mt. Fuji, Aokigahara is infamous throughout Japan as a popular spot for those taking their final journey. In 2002, 78 bodies were found within it, replacing the previous record of 73 in 1998. By May of 2006, at least 16 new suicides had already been found. More than a few of them were even carrying copies of Tsurumui's book. No one knows how many bodies go undiscovered.

Signs emblazoned with messages such as "Please reconsider" and "Please consult the police before you decide to die!" are nailed to trees throughout the forest. However, the woods have such a reputation that these minor deterrents do little to stop the determined. Local residents say they can always tell who is going into the forest for its stunning natural beauty, who is hunting after the macabre and who is planning never to return. "We've got everything here that points to us being a death spot. Perhaps we should just promote ourselves as 'Suicide City' and encourage people to come here," the exasperated mayor of Aokigahara has been quoted as saying.

Part of the appeal is dying at the foot of the sacred Mt. Fuji. Part of it is the foreboding nature of Aokigahara, so dense and thick that from just a few kilometers inside it no sounds can be heard other than those produced by the forest itself. Legends surround the place; for instance, there are said to be massive underground iron deposits that cause compasses to go haywire, trapping innocents along with the purposely suicidal. Japan's Self Defence Force regularly runs training exercises throughout Aokigahara, and claims to have had no trouble with their military-grade lensatic compasses. They admit, though, that commercially available equipment would be pretty much useless.

Aokigahara is considered the most haunted location in all of Japan, a purgatory for yurei, the unsettled ghosts of Japan who have been torn unnaturally soon from their lives and who howl their suffering on the winds. Spiritualists say that the trees themselves are filled with a malevolent energy, accumulated from centuries of suicides. They don't want you to go back out.

However, even in these haunted woods, regular humans still have a job to do. Forestry workers rotate in and out of shifts at a station building in Aokigahara, and occasionally they will come upon unfortunate bodies in various states of decomposition, usually hanging from trees or partially eaten by animals. The bodies are brought down to the station, where a spare room is kept especially for such occasions. In this room are two beds: one for the corpse and one for someone to sleep next to it. Yup, you read that correctly. It is thought that if the corpse is left alone, the lonely and unsettled yurei will scream the whole night through, and the body will move itself into the regular sleeping quarters. In inimitable style, the workers jan-ken to see who gets to sleep with the body. And you thought your job was rough.

That is funny! I just saw a thing on the discovery channel about a week or so ago on that subject. I never knew it existed until I saw the program on TV. It is amazing stuff.

no, this has nothing to do with cars traveling uphill by themselves. its literally an area at the base of mt fuji with thick forestry. its not just a myth, they actually have tours but you have to go in connected to a rope that leads you out. the japanese military does admit that a normal store bought compass would go haywire. if you read the whole post, they constantly find bodies out there mostly of people who committed suicide but also of people who have just seemed to get lost. im going to mt. fuji next week, im hoping ill be able to get pictures and information to share with you all!

I've seen an episode of UFO files that actually dives into the topic of the Pacific Bermuda Triangle, off the southern tip of Japan. It is located in the water however, not on land near, or rather within a wilderness area, so that is interesting. I do remember the program stating that the Pacific and Bermuda Triangles connect at a specific latitude line, 32* was it? anyways that's my tidbit.

TO OPTIX:

i asked my wife if she knew anything about the dragons triangle, and she never heard of it. believe it or not here in Japan the forest at the base of mt fuji being haunted and messing with compasses is a known fact. i plan on trying to go on one of the rope tours but i hear you have to book them ahead of time...

Thats a great story. Makes me want to go there and do some digging around. It also has all the ingredients for a fantastic film. Im definatley going to do some more research in to this, you've sparked my imagination. I like the thought that its somehow connected to the burmuda triangle. Perhaps through some underground channel that go's straight through the Earth. A channel that feeds on the souls of those who die within its triangles.

I would'nt want to be the one who drew the short straw when it comes to sleeping next to the dead body. Just the smell alone would knock you sick. Imagine if you woke up the next day with it snugled up to you lol.

Freaky stuff.

Great Thread.

I have heard of the place from a series called Destination Truth. They investigated this place due to the numerous paranormal reports and suicides that have taken place there:

It is really easy to get lost in the deep forest, hence the missing people. But yes, it is dubious that so many people choose this place to spend their last days at, I sure do not want to go for a hike there only to discover someone who committed suicide.

There are 12 Vortices

www.deepinfo.com...

The one that is connected to the Bermuda Triangle is Japan's Devil's Sea. Never heard of anything on Mt Fuji, But there is a lot of vortexes out there.

Something called the Dragon Lines cross throught Mt Fuji.

David Wilcox talks about them as well. 2 1/2 hour talk by him. If you have time i would suggest this.
