College student named police chief in Mexico; no one else applied

A town near drug cartel capital Juarez, Mexico, had just one applicant for police chief after a spate of killings of public officials in drug-related violence. So now the new chief in Guadalupe, a town of 10,000 residents near the Texas border, is 20-year-old college criminology major Marisol Valles García.

I'm glad this young woman stood up and took action. I grantee all the 420 wannabe groups are going to be making fun of this young, professional and beautiful woman. We need more people like here in the world.

What a brave lady, there may be something to be said for the thought that the cartels may be reluctant to kill a woman, although many women have already been killed by them, such a high profile killing may bring about change but not while the cartels are armed to the teeth.
