Boy o Boy. He's at it again. Just making things up as he goes along. I don't understand why Obama is so afraid to read the Declaration of Independence verbatim. The way it was intended.

For the second time in little over a month, President Barack Obama stripped the word "Creator" from the Declaration of Independence when giving a speech.

"As wonderful as this land is here in the United States, as much as we have been blessed by the bounty of this magnificent continent that stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific, what makes this place special is not something physical. It has to do with this idea that was started by 13 colonies that decided to throw off the yoke of an empire and said, ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that each of us are endowed with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,’” Obama said in Monday's speech. [Emphasis added.]


Come on Barry, this is what it really says. Dig deep I know whats left of your spine is under your skin somewhere.

The Declaration of Independence actually says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” [Emphasis added.]


Pretty innocent little tidbit from a rather important document eh. What's the harm here? Interpret "creator" as you see fit.

Is Obama attempting to use a little White Out in our history books?

Back on Sept. 15, in a speech before the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Annual Awards Gala, President Obama said: "But over the centuries, what eventually bound us together -- what made us all Americans -- was not a matter of blood, it was a matter of birth. It was faith and fidelity to the shared values that we all hold so dear. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, endowed with certain inalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” [Emphasis added.]

I'd like to know just who or what has endowed us with our unalienable rights according to Obama. Five bucks says he thinks that all rights are endowed by the government to be handed out and taken away as they deem fit.

Actually, the fact that that bothers you and others so says more about some people's insistence and ambition to turn the US into a archaic theocracy. Nothing inflicts more damage on our species than religious zealotry. Heck, if one does some research they'll find that many "founding fathers" thought just as much.

yes the founding fathers thought as much......................and yet they chose to put the word Creator in the text.

No matter what you believe, you can't go around choosing which words you think should or should not go into the Declaration.

We either take it and the Constitution as they are or we burn them right now.

You just took a mighty big leap. Why omit a simple word for a key document that helped lay the foundation for our nation? Ones creator could be anything to anyone from God to Mother Earth, to a scientist in a lab with a test tube. No harm there.

However, on 3 occasions Obama has omitted this little tidbit from his speeches. The man without conviction is merely pandering to a very small percent of our population and distancing himself from the rest.

Is there some new religion I am unaware of that combines all the "God's" of all religions into one "creator"?

In fact the concept of "Creator" can apply to any religion can it not? It could even be applied to evolution by calling nature the "Creator."

I am pretty sure they chose that specific word for the purpose of being religiously neutral.

I believe the OP is pointing out a pattern not a one time slip of the tongue. If your choice for President had not repeatedly made claims of his christianity I believe these calculated ommissions wouldn't warrant a second look.

Time to come up for some air my friend. I'm sure you never bashed GWB for any of his little hiccups right?

Well, I am not a very good Christian, if anything I am a Deist. BUT, I don't think we should be fiddling with the wording of those documents. It is a matter of historical perspective and progress. The fact is, the nation was built on religious foundations and it did very well for a couple of centuries. Recently we have gotten further and further from those ideals and the nation has been run less and less efficiently. Hell, even the atrocities at Abu Ghraib are evidence of a Nation without strong morality.

I don't think we need a theocracy, but I am positive that we don't want to rewrite history and pretend we were never a Christian nation. We were. And, we were successful at it. Now, we are losing our direction, and a little morality might go a long way.

I don't think Obama is Muslim, Atheist, or Reptilian, he might be, but that isn't the point. The point is that a very important document and ideal and foundation of the nation is worded a distinct way for a distinct reason and I don't want the president pretending that it isn't so!
