China Said to Widen Its Embargo of Minerals
www.nytimes.com...

China mines 95 percent of the world’s rare earth elements, which have broad commercial and military applications, and are vital to the manufacture of products as diverse as cell phones, large wind turbines and guided missiles. Any curtailment of Chinese supplies of rare earths is likely to be greeted with alarm in Western capitals, particularly because Western companies are believed to keep much smaller stockpiles of rare earths than Japanese companies.
Is America becoming a 2nd class country?
China continues to build on its path to become the world’s new superpower; delegating America to just another 2nd class nation.

The significance of the US-Sino conflict is missed altogether. It is between liberal democracy and dictatorship. The outcome of the conflict will determine whether humankind will continue the trend to individual dignity and social justice or revert to the pre-Enlightenment days of autocracy and social hierarchy. With the precedent concentration of wealth in hand, the Chinese authorities have started to advertise the “China model” of development, via crony capitalism under absolute one-party dictatorship, and spread the value system behind it — Confucianism. What is at stake is far more than purely economic.

There is no parity or mutual anything here. China is eating our lunch. As a nation we spend more than we earn. Consumption is 70% of our GDP and investment is paltry. We have the world’s largest trade imbalance (mostly because of our vast imports from China).
America has become great because it was a democracy, and had a stable political system, with free market capitalism, endless opportunities, constant immigration influx, large middle class and science worship. Now it has become Socialistic, Feminize, and hypocritical, cold #hole.
That’s why China soon will overthrow it
China, on the other hand, only consumes about 35% of their GDP and saves a tremendous amount of what they earn. They are a net exporter and net lender to us. If we stop buying from them for a while, they have reserves to sit on. If they dump our debt, our interest rates skyrocket and currency falls.

That’s why China soon will overthrow it. Solution; don’t pay our debt with China?

not to go making excuses for those 'powers that be', but last i checked, A LOT of people CHOOSE to buy the cheaper crap from overseas than paying more for something produced here at a reasonable wage.

America could bring the 'jobs' back tomorrow if people were willing to work for pennies on the dollar.

me i dont buy nothing from chinese for the simply it is junk i dont buy cheap because of the ol addeum you get what you pay for..........if it costs me twice as much i buy it............tvs,electronics i buy japanese even cars....

thats the way it is...........china will never become a true superpower until "quality" is associated with its name

and my take that isnt ever going to happen.

and no america wont bring back jobs for the simple fact unions, regulations and taxes and EDUCATION are addressed.............when it comes to outsourcing those are the culprits.............its the combination of all of the above...............even if you paid people pennies on the dollar that will not bring jobs back...

business go elsewhere in the world for the simple fact thats where the resources are:

people
people educated
people with degrees
people who dont think they too good to do anything.....................and until that changes outsourcing will never end.

We're well on our way and imo it is because our political machine is "for sale." Corporations have no national loyalties. Truly, the world is their oyster. Our politicians have written legislation over the years that has allowed for the complete dismantling of our production and manufacturing abilities, outsourcing of jobs and unlimited immigration with no penalties for doing so... rewards in fact.

The government has been willing to borrow and borrow to maintain our lifestyles which has trickled down and allowed us to become a nation whose consumer spending is 70% of GDP. Can we continue to borrow so we can continue to be consumers? At what point do we hit the wall? When that happens and we aren't able to contribute to the global economy THEN we will be completely a 2nd class country. At that point these corporations that ARE global won't have much if any incentive to stay, they have customers elsewhere.

Right now, despite our economic malaise, we still have the better country. Our environment is not polluted and most people in the western world have a better lifestyle than in China in so many ways. Question is, how do we keep it that way?

If we continue down our current path and have to entice manufacturing back home what sacrifices will we have to or be willing to make? Let our rivers and aiir become polluted (again)? Work for... I was going to say a dollar a day but at that point it won't be a dollar... guess it will be a yuan or remnimbi?

That says it all.
I would add my “Wishful thinking” that we buy only American produced items; Don’t buy from companies that outsource; Buy first from small local business; Vote for a small government.

Heya OPs.

First off, America has never been, is not, nor never should be a Democracy...Democracy is mob rule trash government. A complete destroyer and the worst government in my opinion ever contemplated.

It is a republic...it has always been a republic, and god willing, will always be a republic.

There is a massive difference.

Now, about the rest of your thread.
China is a socialism...your saying that America is losing power to China (the socialist country) because we are becoming more socialist in our programs? Hell, we are edging close to the socialist times of reagen if this keeps up...yep.

-sighs-

America is rapidly becoming a 3rd world in regards to the education of its people...that much is clear by many mindsets.

yeah, it's everyone's fault EXCEPT the American consumer who chooses to 'save' i the short run, while they spend money at businessess who take that money way from their community.

Actually, the USA is a Democratic Republic. We practice 'democracy' in the voting process. Or had you not read the right-wing talking point all the way through before you repeated it mindlessly?

right wing...really?
get a grip.

Saying simply America is not a democracy...we do not vote directly for laws and such...we vote for representatives to figure it out for us..and thats a good thing.

a democracy would have a disasterous outcome...imagine anything seen popular, cool, uncool, unpopular, being voted on as legal or illegal in the country with majority rule

interracial marrying would be outlawed, along with homosexuality, hell, we would probably still have slaves and women would not be allowed to vote.

people en masse are generally morons. Person to person, one can show exceptional wisdom, but the bigger the group, the less words are exchanged, until entire partys can barely think of 3 word slogans to define their mindsets...

Yes we're on our way to 2nd/3rd world status. In some ways, we're already there. The educational system and public transportation system are horrid. Both are falling way behind the majority of the rest of the industrialized world. Essentially, the U.S. is becoming the first post-industrial country. We lead the way in the second industrial revolution, and now we're leading the way in the collapse of modern civilization, imo. Just wait until the dollar is no longer the reserve currency of the world, and the petrodollar policies are dropped. That's when we get to see where we truly stand as a nation. Right now, the illusion still exists that we're a prosperous nation on our own accord. Without our military might forcing the petrodollar & reserve currency status, we'd have collapsed long ago. We're less than a decade away from the USD being toast, and the average US citizen going completely bonkers because he can't rationally explain how all of his life's work has essentially vanished, and how his future generations will be essentially slaves to a broken, and totally corrupt government.
