Is there something going on with picture manipulation in the media?

Putting aside the point of where this is posted at and such, Why are they putting such pictures out now and modifying them without checking them for errors first?
I realize many of the so called media have for many years done this but are they getting bolder or more careless?
Given the fact most of the media is in Obama's pocket it seems strange they would allow these photos to be put out there.
Any thoughts or ideas on this?

Odd, goofy, and unflattering pictures above an article will get more interest and then more clicks/traffic. More traffic means more $. I think it's as simple as that.
