I read a lot of really ignorant comments on these boards about our current president. Calling him a 'commie', or claiming he has not fulfilled any campaign promises is truly asinine (and easily dis-proven), and sometimes i wonder if the people on here perpetuating such substance-less criticism of Obama are actually Democrat operatives trying to discredit ALL criticism by association?

Or are they all just unable to make a realty-based criticism of the current president because it might actually implicate the whole system, and the Republicans as well?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not defending Obama against legitimate criticism from people not wedded to the GOP.I'm just curious if all these mis-informants are intentionally making ridiculous claims, or if they are just truly that ignorant.

what say ya'll?

I think that the current trend in politics is the same type of phenomenon that has spawned in all the other alternative news forums lately.

There is something stressing us so badly (probably the reality that global financial meltdown is happening) that is making people assume some very bizarre behavioral traits.

We are rebelling against everything right now. And Obama, as POTUS, is ground zero for the political aspects of all this. I am not a big fan of Obama but he's way less threatening, to me, than the Tea Party religious fanatics.

I'm not necessarily a big fan of Obama. I just tire of the clearly ignorant rubes who continue to perpetuate their ignorance by making all sorts of ridiculous claims.

I TRULY think they are DNC operatives, trying to make ANY criticism of Obama seems stupid by association.

I mean, it's ether that or most of these are REALLY, REALLY stupid. And that just cant be it, can it?

I am starting to think the entire tea party movement was created by the Dems to make all conservatives look like nut jobs.

and im thinking that to create such a thing would require much more intelligence and effort that these democrats deserve credit for.

The tea party is spawned of its own stupidity. Nothing else.

Maybe a foray into the political world outside of the forums could help you sort this out, Dood. Real Clear Politics & Politico are 2 aggregators I like; with opinion pieces & analysis from both the left & the right (slim pickings for libertarians, though. antiwar.com, Pat Buchanan's & Lew Rockwell, I like). It isn't "only" the Tea Party & the republicans who feel that the president is too far to the left (the words "Marxist" & "socialist" have been used by liberal pundits with increasing frequency), arrogant & out of touch. More than half of the democratic base have left him too. (though in reality, Obama left them) This is a fully bi-partisan rejection.

It's tragic because it is 180 degrees from what they expected & what should have happened. People WERE hoping that Obama would take the mandate he received to turn things around (& back around from the the Bush years). Unfortunately, the president went off on a tangent to enact HIS agenda while a majority composed of republicans AND democrats (especially many who call themselves "progressive") were practically screaming Don't Do It!! the whole time. He ignored us. He did this stuff anyway. And he's dragged the rest of the democratically dominated Congress (& the republicans who caved) with him.

Maybe you should consider that it is self destructive to try & defend the indefensible. just sayin...

THANK YOU for a GREAT example of the kind of hubris I'm referring to! You dress up a baseless opinion (in this case, your nonsense about 'obama's runaway agenda') but you offer not even a SHRED of evidence to prove your opinion. You just think stating it makes it so. Do you work for the DNC?

THIS is what is happening to American political debate. IT's being systemically DUMBED DOWN by people who think an 'opinion' is a fact.

Yeah, wanting less taxes, a limited government, less government regulations and a government which actually abides by the Constitution is so stupid.

no, but not having a CLUE of how to get from here to there IS indeed a symptom of stupid.

tell me, which 'government programs' do you want 'less of'?

the ones you use?

or just the ones your neighbors use?

What on Earth are you talking about?

How about not being so cryptic and explain what you mean because that makes no sense at all.

tell me, which 'government programs' do you want 'less of'?

It's not only programs which should be cut but lots of useless and cumbersome regulations along with useless and wasteful spending.

Are you saying the government is working efficiently? Let's see.....what programs are bankrupt....social security, welfare, post office, medicare and medicaid to name just a few.

As far as getting rid of programs goes, I see no need for the department of education & agriculture to name just a few. Both of these federal programs do nothing useful. The states already handle most of the responsibility and the states should control their own.

the ones you use?

I cannot think of any I use which are voluntary. Most like social security I have no choice and I still think it should go.

Sure. But, like I said, which ones, specifically.

You want to end social security? Good luck getting the old people on your side.

LOL. I can see you arent a big fan of education.

you are not required to accept social security. You can return it anytime you'd like.

I also seriously question your claim that you dont benefit from any government programs. I believe, if anything, that only highlights your ignorance to your inter-dependence on many, many systems you dont even comprehend, yet claim you want to 'cut'.

This is my point-so dont miss it---Just saying you want 'smaller government' doesnt make you informed. Educating yourself as to the incredibly complicated details of how to dismantle a complex system is FAR more difficult than just being 'against'.

Figures you cannot even explain what you meant. Typical.

It would NOT affect old people. Besides, you are missing the point again. It's a bankrupt and useless program and people would have a lot more money by saving on their own. You pick a year and state from this year forward there will be no more money taken from you for social security and you will have to save on your own.

LOL. I can see you arent a big fan of education.

LOL
I can see you are only a fan of federally mandated government education.

States can do a much better job without government intervention. The states are doing most of the work already. Your local and state taxes are for education.

you are not required to accept social security. You can return it anytime you'd like.

No that is a ignorant comment. You cannot opt out of social security. You cannot stop the government from taking your money. Why would I return my own money to the government?
It's my money they took from me to begin with. This is how the government wants to get you dependent on them. Get it now?

I also seriously question your claim that you dont benefit from any government programs. I believe, if anything, that only highlights your ignorance to your inter-dependence on many, many systems you dont even comprehend, yet claim you want to 'cut'.

You can seriously question anything you like but if you cannot give me an example of something then you are wrong and your point is moot and totally wishful thinking.

Just saying you want 'smaller government' doesnt make you informed.

No, it makes you smart because it's funny how things prosper without government interference.

Educating yourself as to the incredibly complicated details of how to dismantle a complex system is FAR more difficult than just being 'against'.

So you are saying just because something is complicated it should not be touched and the status quo is desirable? That is just giving in to your government masters. Sad, just sad.

You had better add the US Postal Service to that short list

it is a money pit, white elephant... which has evolved into a cesspool
where people can be hired to re-pay their loyalty... That function used to be
being placed in the Foreign Service, ....such as Ambassadorships (for big spenders),
or Embassy positions, for the folks that qualified as nepotism... or just small timers---

That Is: until American's overseas were getting taken hostage or getting be-headed...
so the Post Offce became the safe-deposit-box for returning favors ---about ~12 years ago
to my knowledge

BTW... SS is not bankrupt... its just that the present moneys collected via FICA
are less than the payouts... but the SSA has more than $2.3 Billion in IOUs...
where the Congress stole money from the SSA 'lock-box' funds...
i fear that you are eating up the garbage & spin the TPTB forces are telling you !

So you are under the impression that the Social Security check you receive is 'your money'? That sounds awfully entitled.

As I noted, you are free to return it, since you say you dont want it. or you could donate it to charity?

Are you saying the amount you put in is anywhere near equivalent to what you are taking out?

Also, as the person above noted, the meme that Social Security is 'bankrupt' is disinfo.

Huh?
Please tell me you are joking and not really this ignorant.
Of course SS is your money. Where do you think it comes from? Do you think the government has a money tree which only blooms for SS checks.

It's your/our money which they take from you on every paycheck.

As I noted, you are free to return it, since you say you dont want it. or you could donate it to charity?

Apparently you have reading comprehension issue because I said just the opposite. I definitely want my checks because I want to get back at least some of the money they took from me.

Are you saying the amount you put in is anywhere near equivalent to what you are taking out?

Of course not and why would you even think I said that?

This is another reason why SS should be stopped for future citizens. The government takes $1 and once you reach the age they want, they will return .50 cents and then tax it. What a scam!!

Also, as the person above noted, the meme that Social Security is 'bankrupt' is disinfo.

Of course it's bankrupt and anyone who states otherwise is being disingenuous or just plain ignorant.

So you ARE under the impression that the money taken from your paycheck is equal to the money you collect (the same money you say you dont want).

it's not.

Well, you are IN LUCK! you are getting back MORE than you paid in! Congratulations!

Can you post your figures? Because I think your math s a bit off:-)

Of course it's bankrupt and anyone who states otherwise is being disingenuous or just plain ignorant.

But it's not 'bankrupt' because the system doesnt work. It's 'bankrupt' because they keep borrowing money from it to pay for all sorts of unrelated crap. TO claim otherwise is nonsense.

And CURRENTLY, I"M still paying into it so people like you can continue to collect, even tho most folks agree it wont be there for me when i reach your age. So what are you complaining about? Not being able to concede t being very wrong?

You are changing your argument.

Your point was that SS was not your money and of course it is as I stated. NOW, you are changing your argument since facts slapped you in the face and proved you incorrect. NOW you are changing your argument by saying money in does not equal money out. Well of course it's not and it's definitely not MORE.

Look, if you cannot focus or remember what you are stating then what is the point of debating.
