Have any of you seen this?

MOSCOW (AP) - A Russian archaeologist claimed Tuesday to have found the well-preserved ruins of a "Caucasian Stonehenge" built by a previously unknown Bronze Age civilization in southern Russia.

Andrey Belinskiy said that unusual circular settings made of stones were found at one of some 200 settlements that date back to 1600 B.C. and are located in the North Caucasus mountains. The settlements have been uncovered in the past five years by a Russian-German expedition he heads, Belinskiy said.

He referred to the structure as a "Caucasian Stonehenge," drawing a comparison with the famous monument in southwest England.

The settlements had carefully designed houses and oval courtyards for cattle and were built on the mountain plateau between the Kuban River and today's city of Kislovodsk, he said.

"They were built by one standard, one measurement system, with landscape and climate factors taken into consideration," he said.

It's an interesting find, OP. It's just that these Russians have exaggerated. That image you linked is not worthy of the Stone Henge simile. It's way too small to be called the Caucasian Stonehenge.

Yea, agree with you, that is why I was asking for more photos.
This looks more like the base of a watch tower or a "fire ring", not much at all like Stonehenge.

Asking for more photos is a good idea. s&f.

Looks like the base of a watchtower indeed. All along the watchtower...

It's still a nice find. The Caucuses are the likeliest origin of the Celtic peoples as well before they spread throughout Europe. Finding a proto-Henge here lends itself to the idea building such observatories was an age-old custom of theirs. The few found in the Anatolian peninsula could have been from trade/contact with these people.

Stonehenge predates this structure by almost a millenium.
And seems far more impressive.
