No evidence was destroyed. It was all there, plain as day.....at the site of impact.

destroy evidence and send a message.

The "sent message" was from the extremists.

A better question to ask would be, "Why did the terrorists attack the Pentagon instead of the Capital building?"

It is considered highly likely that United 93's target was the Capitol Building. Some have suggested, alternately, the White House. However,the Capitol is MUCH easier to see, from the air....being larger, and is situated on a hill, is elevated more compared to anything else in D.C.
