Teen who killed family on Donaldson ranch goes free
www.cnn.com...

Cody Posey had just finished the eighth grade when he was arrested on July 7, 2004, in connection with the slayings of his father, stepmother and stepsister.

I am not sure how I feel about this. The story headline aired about the same time I was thinking there is a conspiracy within the penal system, to build more prisons (and privatize them) in the US after watching one of those "behind bars" programs where the prisoners were picking food from fields to feed themselves.
Free enterprise has made operating a prison a rather lucrative business and like any business it involves research and development and even advertising. By this I mean operating a prison has become a desirable and profitable business, like arms sales and defense/military equipment....like Walmarts.
Because there is a need does this make it desirable? necessary? ok?
Someone somewhere is perpetuating the need.
Society cannot get better if there is a "covert" little known, and secretive agenda to increase the need for these goods and services.
Rather than rehabilitation we have changed our focus toward incarceration and how to do that better.
Who is to say...these "incarceration specialists" entrepreneurs have not tilted the scales in their favor?
Who is to say it is not done in collusion with powerful people taking bribes?
You do not have to be the leader but own the leaders loyalty and fealty.
Allowing capitalism to expand in this field has not served to protect "society" or make us any better off as a Nation. It has made us worse and it continues to move in that direction.
We are not even allowed to think of "society" as a whole without getting accused of being a Nazi but it seems to me if we were more focused on FIXING problems such as "the need" for prisons and wars rather than making room to accommodate the offenders, rather than incorporate them into our vision, plan and structure, even allowing them to boom...

Cody Posey we all hope will fade into obscurity and never make the news again. Maybe I am not alone thinking there is always a danger he will, freak out and kill someone else. If he was abused what about women who do life for killing their abusive husbands. How is this a greater crime than killing 3 people?
Only his psychiatrists knows how likely this young man is to being a danger to anyone and even that is speculation.

Is Cody Posey getting out of jail because this is the way our system works?
Will we let people sit there for all their lives without parole for marijuana offenses that hurt no one and set people who are clearly a danger to themselves and others free?

In his confession, Posey admitted that after burying the bodies in the manure pile, he tried to stage the scene to look like a burglary. He said he took the family's pickup and visited friends, where he spent the night, lying about where his family was. Donaldson told jurors he called the police soon after finding a large amount of congealed blood in the house and a "disturbing, red, dry swath" across the floor where the bodies had been dragged. The bloody trail and backhoe tracks led police to the manure pile where the badly decomposed bodies were discovered.

So what is going on?
Do we really need more jails?
Do we collectively as a society feel this man has served his time and deserves to spend the remainder among us in some way. Has he been rehabilitated?
If so, what about the "zero tolerance" during the Reagan years?

Rehabilitated people, whose crime killed or injured none and may even have helped others are spending life in jail... on principal.

Who stops this?
How do we correct these types of egregious misuse of the law and penal system?

The man who killed his father, stepmother and stepsister on a New Mexico ranch when he was just 14 years old is now a free man. Cody Posey is free to do whatever he wants. He recently left an unsecured facility to help him transition back into society. CYFD confirms his sentence is over just one day before his 21st birthday. Posey was convicted of killing his family on newsman Sam Donaldson's Hondo ranch back in 2004, claiming he snapped from physical and sexual abuse. Despite pleas from his victims' families, Posey was sentenced as a juvenile.
